70% - Drawful 2
Jul 11, 2018

I think Drawful 2 is a great little party game as long as you have enough people to play with. When I was with a party of people this was great fun for an hour or so. The beauty of the Jackbox collection is that you can then try another game after. You won't have that option when you purchase this as a standalone title but if you own Jackbox party bundles already this will be a nice addition. It's cheap enough for us to recommend but only if you have more than three people you can play with often. Also factor in the fact that you will need a tablet or smartphone each to play this game and WIFI to connect to. If you don't have all of those variables then, of course, it's hard to recommend this game to you as you won't be able to play it. In what Drawful 2 sets out to do it succeeds in giving you fun and laughter for friends and family.

Overall, Blazblue Cross Tag Battle is a good fighting game. It’s not great however which is a shame considering there’s actually a fair amount of competition on the Switch these days. I found the story mode to be fairly poor unless you’re really invested in the characters and my rough experience online did notch it down for me. Still, there’s a decent, approachable fighting game here with a nice tutorial for newbies. It looks outstanding and sounds great too, so it does have plenty going for it but it’s probably not going to be a top tier fighting game for fans of the genre especially because of the simplified nature of it.

85% - Runbow
Jul 9, 2018

Runbow is an exceptional little platformer with an emphasis on timing, some strategy, and multiplayer. For $14.99, this has a tremendous amount of content and should not be skipped.

The wonderful visuals, composition of music, as well as writing, touched my heart on so many layers. Loving a good narrative that left me thinking, The Lion’s Song encouraged you to make your own impressions and reflect on the stories. Released in 2017, the Switch port of Austrian indie game is not that old but has possibly one of the worst release dates this year. Just a few days before Octopath Traveler! It’s sad because this game deserves a lot and even had won an award last year and is, in my opinion, worth your time and money if you are a fan of this genre or want to try something new in that direction.

80% - Pato Box
Jul 7, 2018

Overall, if you are a fan of Punch Out!! or nostalgic for that sort of arcade experience then look no further than Pato Box. It’s weird, wonderful and looks as whacky as it plays. The adventure mode is a hugely welcome surprise despite a couple of rough points and a questionable frame rate. Pato Box delivered the unexpected and gave you something you didn’t know you actually wanted until they gave it to you. The standard fighting is of course up to scratch and more polished than the adventuring and the fact you can just concentrate on that if you want to is welcome. It delivers fun and challenge in equal measure. It looks and sounds fantastic too which makes it into a very solid, quirky package.

This is a game which meets the objectives it set out to achieve. Present a fighting game which is fun and easy for the casual to get into. While the game is easy to get into it's still tough to master. While the moves may be easy to pull off you still have to understand timing, putting combos together at the right time and when best to use your meter to make the best use of your characters special moves. This, as with any fighting game, will take time. For the money, this exceeded my expectations offering a nice variety of modes, including online ranked matches as well as the ability to play with friends. If you want something easy to pick up and play then you can't really go wrong with Pocket Rumble.

85% - Paladins
Jun 15, 2018

Paladins Champions of the Realm had a long Beta period that has certainly paid off. What we get here is a fully fledged online hero shooter that fills a gap in the Switch lineup. Its fairly easy to get into and offers a lot of depth to keep you wanting more. A lack of voice chat (built in), long loading times and no story do detract but the sheer number of hours that you can sink into a game like this makes it a solid purchase at the moment with a free to play version coming later on in the year. If like me you were looking for a competitive outlet this could be the one for you.

85% - N++
Jun 5, 2018

Learning your momentum in N++ Ultimate Edition is essential. Starting with easier levels, the difficulty goes up in a well-balanced curve. You will die a lot, but that is totally okay. Jumping into the action with practically no loading screen will not reduce the amount of platforming action you get. Had enough jumping and running away from death threats? You can play with friends or build your own levels. I highly recommend that everyone tries out this game. No “if you are a fan of the genre, you will love it and if you don’t, then stay away” here! Buy this game and have fun with it like I did and certainly will after I have completed this review.

Overall, I think that Fallen Legion: Rise to Glory is a great game. The story was told very well, portraying both characters as villains when needed when neither is truly evil. Gameplay was satisfying for the most part, as it was skill based as opposed to luck based. I wish there was more in terms of equipment, but that is a minor flaw. The game suffers from unclear terminology, which could be easily fixed with an expanded appendix. The game also looks and sounds amazing, which I loved. If you are willing to look past a few flaws, you will find a great game in Fallen Legion: Rise to Glory.

West of Loathing is one of those games that you go into not expecting much at all. My only previous experience of it was seeing it at EGX and I was watching someone else play. I thought it looked ok, but I didn't give it much thought after that. I went into this totally cold, expecting very little. That has taught me a very valuable lesson yet again to never judge a book by its cover. The game is rich with content, has an excellent and humorous story which will keep you entertained all the way through with great little brain teasers. The only slight let down is the battles, but it's not even that bigger deal as this has so much more to offer. Do yourself a favour and pick this one up because it's one of the best little games on Switch and one I will not hesitate in recommending.

Overall I think Yesterday Origins is a great experience for point and click adventure game fans. It presents a solid package very reminiscent of the second era of adventure gaming. If you liked Microids other efforts like the Syberia series, you’ll do well to pick this one up too as it’s more of the same, but potentially even better. Sure, a few presentation issues mar it a little as well as bizarrely sluggish controls but adventure fans will still enjoy it, even if it’s not going win any more people over to the genre. Still, if you want to settle down with a nice coffee or tea and play this one, I’m sure you won’t be disappointed, as long as you don’t mind checking a guide once in a while.

I had a few small gripes with this game, namely the controls, loading times and for some, it will be too short but let there be no doubt that this game is something special. The atmosphere created is marvelous. The visuals and the way this games runs solidly in handheld or docked is a pleasure. The little horrors that greet you are creepy and through this nightmare you start to care about Six and making sure she stays alive. It's all those little interactions and small details that make this game so good. Platforming, solving puzzles while creeping stealthily past monsters make this so compelling. There will be things you may not understand once this journey is complete as the game leaves a lot to the imagination. The DLC helps give a more complete picture which is welcome. Little Nightmares is a wonderful nightmare if that's even possible and one you should not hesitate in enjoying.

Klei Entertainment is willingly neglecting to take you by the hand through your journey to stay alive. Willing to forgive the game for its bugs and lack of multiplayer, I enjoyed the tough challenge and will pick it up again. But beware: you will live to die in this game. Sometimes, you get the feeling this game will slap you in the face more than it is welcomed to do, so if you cannot keep up with that – keep your hands off it. And if you could not resist and picked it up, you got plenty of guides or walkthroughs on the internet to help you since the fanbase of this interactive gothic pop-up book style game is respectable. Happy dying, I mean... uhm, surviving, everyone!

80% - Runner3
May 17, 2018

Overall, Runner3 represents a welcome return for Commander Video, especially in his best form. Runner 2 was one of the best rhythm games on the Wii U and, although there is much stiffer competition on the Switch, Choice Provisions have done it again. Providing a fun, personality-filled musical running experience, Runner3 is a no brainer for rhythm game fans. Its a pity there are only 3 worlds, and the extreme difficulty will not be for everyone, but I really enjoyed it. Even if I wanted to throw my controller out of the window a couple of times.

Invisiballs is an interesting competitive local multiplayer game. The action is intense and the competition can get really heated. It is visually interesting, and the controls are very smart and tight. There is a surprising amount of depth in the gameplay, considering how basic the game looks on its face. It isn't without its issues though, with a poor soundtrack and game breaking cheesing being possible in 2 player mode. Overall, Invisiballs is a fun game if you have a bunch of friends to play with.

This is for the most part quite a satisfactory game, it doesn't have the same impact for me as say AOT2 or Naruto but they are of course very different games. If you are a One Piece fan or love Musou type games then I am sure you will enjoy this. There are problems with the pacing, how repetitive it can get and the story interrupting the battles. I also have an issue with the price of this game on the eShop here in the UK and in Europe. Quite frankly paying almost double for the same game here in the UK compared to the USA is ridiculous. If you can get this at the right price then go for it but otherwise wait for a sale as Bandai Namco themselves have released better games than this on the Switch already and with Hyrule, just around the corner, you may want to save your Hard Earned Cash for that.

75% - Goetia
May 12, 2018

Overall I think Goetia is a very nice experience and a nice return to form for the publisher. It’s certainly the creme of their crop so far and I think it’s a game many gamers will enjoy. Of course it comes with the caveat that you’re into slow paced point and click adventure games with slightly obtuse puzzles. If not, then you probably won’t get anything from Goetia aside from the nice visuals and music. So it’s not for everyone, but for those who do enjoy this style of game, then you probably want to pick it up especially with the nice pricing.

70% - Garage
May 9, 2018

Overall Garage is a good solid title that I can easily give a solid recommendation to. It doesn’t cover any new ground but it’s a well put together offering for those looking for a nice bit of unapologetic action with a horror theme. Sure the combat, especially the close quarters kind, isn’t quite as good as it could be, but there’s still fun to be had exploring the darkness and taking down the undead and gruesome monsters that lurk in garage.

Three-fourths Home is a very well told narrative experience that will have you curious as to how it will all unfold. The characters are expertly written, and the way your answers shape the conversations with these characters makes then feel very human. The sound design and visual aesthetic are both superb, and help give the game character without distracting from the conversations. Unfortunately the epilogue after the main game drags the story down, ending the game on a disappointing note.

When focusing on the gameplay, the mechanics of it, the physics, level design and creativeness accompanied by the magnificent audio and visual presentation, Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze is one of the finest games available, even four years after its initial release on the failed Wii U. Making such a fantastic game available to a wider audience is not only a financially good decision for Nintendo, but also an altruistic one too. Obviously that’s a joke but in someways it does feel nice that these fantastic Wii U games are getting a second chance of life and being talked and shared around once more. In my opinion, as long as you didn’t have Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze on the Wii U, this game is absolutely essential. If you did have the fortune to play it four years ago like me then you may find it difficult to consider double dipping and that’s fair. It’s just a phenomenal game though, and one of the best platformers ever created.
