Tacoma is as thoughtful and introspective as you'd hope, effortlessly pairing lofty sci-fi ideas with grounded personal stories and diverse characters. Your time on the Tacoma space station may be brief, but it's undeniably satisfying exploring the station and its interactive AR recordings, and there's enough intrigue to the plot to keep you guessing to the end.

How long the appeal lasts might depend on how successfully Nintendo expands the rather slight fighter roster, but right now Arms is a very welcome addition to the Switch lineup.

Far Cry 5 is a rollercoaster of emotions; from the sheer adrenaline of the gameplay, to the psychological trauma resulted from the most disturbing underlings in the series' history. Much like a pilgrimage, the initial trials and tribulations are very difficult, but as things progress it becomes significantly less so. A hugely enjoyable experience, even if it's certainly got a few pacing and open-world teething issues to address.

While difficult at the outset, like many handheld Metroid games before it, Samus Returns is an outstanding and completely engrossing game.

There's definitely enough bang for its buck to be appealing, but we just wish that there was a little more hand-holding in the first couple of hours while you're still learning – and that's not something I thought I'd ever say about a game.

It's going to be grindy, there will be so much loot that you won't know what to do with it, and I personally find the story a little hard to get immersed in. However, the combat is great and the mechanics work well together, there is a huge world to explore and for people who love the genre, this will be one they don't want to miss.

The game is a real step forward for the series, adding new elements and refining the already good combat system into something really quite special. There is something here for fans of fighting games, and UFC fans alike.

Sea of Thieves is great fun, and there's not much else like it available at the moment ... But, with a lack of an actual story or the ability to level up your characters or ship, it's hard to feel a sense of real progression and we wonder if that magic will wear off once you've hit your reputation cap and nailed the look of your character.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider is undoubtedly the biggest, darkest and most enjoyable Tomb Raider game to date. The attention to detail in just about every area of the game is impressive, and the deadly challenge tombs really capture the essence of what Tomb Raider has always been about – solving puzzles, performing death-defying acts and getting hella' loot in the process. It ties the trilogy up perfectly, and we're already waiting to hear about what Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix have planned next.

Pokémon veterans will find a slighter, shallower experience than they're used to, and for them Let's Go will mostly be a curio and a tease of the franchise's future. But for the rest of us this is a friendly way to return to Kanto, stripping away the layers of fuss and features that have calcified over years of sequels to get back to the core of the Pokémon experience: exploring, battling, and catching 'em all.

Super Mario Party is a welcome addition to the library of Switch titles, bringing with it plenty of new game modes and features to keep you entertained. Undoubtedly it will be best to get out at gatherings like Christmas but online play makes it less reliant on those situations.

If you're a series sceptic, it likely won't win you over - at least not unless you can force your way through the first ten hours - but fans looking for a Greek epic to invest a couple hundred hours in will find a rich world, a frankly ludicrous amount of content, and a welcome step forward for Assassin's Creed.

Devil May Cry 5 should satisfy your hack-and-slack itch in a big way. Huge, Hollywood-esque attacks are amped up by insane combos and devastating effects to create something truly satisfying, and the story has a lot to offer too.

This is a stunning return to form for a franchise that many people were just about ready to write off. By being big and bold with the return of its most successful tentpole, Activision has given a new lease of life to the shooter.

Luigi’s Mansion 3 is a slick reminder that Luigi remains Nintendo’s most wasted asset (sorry Waluigi fans), and he and the ghosts are as charming and characterful as anything in a mainline Mario game.
