Jack of All Controllers's Reviews

Nov 14, 2019

If you are invested in the story and characters from the onset, then it is worth it to see Thief of Thieves’ to the end. The game weaves a great tale and the strong cast of characters keep the investment going.

These foibles were there, and noticeable, but I still loved the game. This speaks to the storytelling, which I would think is paramount in a visual novel game. Sure some of the character models were a little … off, but this is not some huge project. This game started as a Kickstarter, and I thank the people that supported it. I should also mention that there were improvements made to the base PC version to bring the game to the Nintendo Switch.

Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games 2020 Tokyo is a game that has a fantastic presentation with amazing and colorful visuals. Sadly, all of that is a façade to the barebones and lacking minigames. Sure, some are hits, but a lot aren’t.

8.5 / 10.0 - Afterparty

Afterparty presents a version of Hell that is likely to hit home for a lot of people, and ensures nothing is wasted when it comes to its writing. The nuanced characters and world will be more than enough for fans of the adventure game genre to enjoy playing through multiple times.

7.5 / 10.0 - Dusk Diver
Oct 28, 2019

Is Dusk Diver a good game? Yeah, I think so! It does have some questionable choices in it and not great performance, but it makes up for that with insanely fun beat-’em-up gameplay, a deliciously cheesy and enjoyable story with memorable characters, and a great musical style and artwork.

6.5 / 10.0 - Spirit of the North
Oct 28, 2019

At the end of the day, despite the faults of the core gameplay, Spirit of the North is redeemed by the amazing sense of wonder its environments, score, and story deliver. Many of its issues lie on the technical side, and quite a few will be impossible to ignore. But, if you’re able to look past that, you‘ll surely find an experience that you won’t soon forget.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare plays out like an ode to the old days of Call of Duty. Both the Campaign and multiplayer modes feel more like the games in the original trilogy than anything the Call of Duty team has put out in recent years, and that is a good thing.

2.5 / 10.0 - Into the Dead 2
Oct 25, 2019

If you’re going to play this game, I’d recommend simply trying the free mobile version out and making your decision based on that. It’s much better suited for that platform, anyhow. But I cannot personally recommend it on Switch, especially at its current price. With a bland and predictable story, poor presentation, and gameplay that just feels like nothing.

While being rough around the edges, I personally think that the core gameplay is extremely fun, and the game gives you good enough reason to see it through to the end.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel III is a wonderful game. None of the bad parts combined would ever hold a candle to the sheer amount of joy and fun I had exploring every single corner of this world.

What his come does to is, do you like the 80s, do you like mutant humor ala TMNT, and do you love rogue like games. If so, this game could give you a few hours of fun.

Ghost Recon: Breakpoint is a tactical shooter with arcade elements that brandishes a new look, the looter-shooter. Though the game could stand on its own without that element, it at least doesn’t take away from the core gameplay.

9.5 / 10.0 - Borderlands 3

7.8 / 10.0 - Blair Witch
Sep 2, 2019

Regardless of a few technical issues, Blair Witch is a good time. The game starts off slow with a not so strong story to boot, but once you hunker down and drive through, the game turns into an anxious, dimly lit, digital embodiment of claustrophobia that every horror game fan should experience for themselves.
