9 / 10 - Pistol Whip
Aug 9, 2020

Pistol Whip is up there with Walking Dead Saints & Sinners as the best PSVR game of 2020. Hell, it’s one of the best games the headset has to offer. If you have any interest in rhythm games or even just waving a gun around, you are going to have an absolute blast here. When all is said and done this is likely to be mentioned in our top games of the year discussion.

Some reviews I have seen state that the formula of Paper Mario is getting a little old, but as a lapsed Mario fan (Odyssey was the first Mario game I saw through to the end since Sunshine) I really enjoyed it. I had never seen this side of the wee red plumber before and so it was not only fresh but beautifully designed, really funny and with that signature Nintendo polish. I highly recommend checking the Origami King out.

9 / 10 - Creaks
Aug 1, 2020

Creaks was an absolute joy to play. I could argue that it maybe lasted a little longer than it needed to but at no point did I stop having fun solving puzzles or being wowed by the beauty of the world. The story may not be one that lives long in the memory, but the characters left an impression on me and I highly recommend this game to any fans of puzzle platform games.

Destroy All Humans is by no means a classic, then. It’s showing its age in more than a few ways in 2020, however it’s unique “charm” (read: crude humour) holds up in 2020 and will serve to provide a solid nostalgia trip for fans of the original release. For this reason, it’d be hard to recommend at full price, but if it paves the way for a true, modern sequel with a proper open world, then all aboard the flying saucer!

SUPERHOT Mind Control Delete is a worthy successor to an outstanding game. It improves on the original with better level design, switchable perks and more diversity in the combat. It’s such a great formula for a game and one where you will turn on for 10 minutes and be glued to the screen for hours.

9 / 10 - F1 2020

This entire game just reeks of quality, and can be exactly the type of racing game you want it to be. The new My Team mode will keep you busy for hours upon hours, but the management aspect does require more of an acquired taste.

I’m a firm believer that a bad game should not be excused for being a bad game just because it’s aimed at kids. Spongebob Squarepants: Battle for Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated is not a bad game, and I – a twenty-five-year-old guy – had a moderate amount of fun exploring its world and reminiscing about early mornings before school watching the cartoon with my brother.

The Last of Us Part II is not only Naughty Dog’s finest work, but one of the greatest video game experiences I have ever had. It sets a new bar in terms of graphics, storytelling and presentation – while offering up so many different ways to play that it feels inclusive to all gamers (Over 18)

This is another great addition to the PSVR library. It fits in alongside titles like GORN and Drunken Bar Fight as mindless fun that can only be truly realised in virtual reality. It also serves as a decent workout, as despite the lack of weight behind what you are throwing/smashing, it burns some serious calories.

There are no character classes or skill trees to muddy the waters which does make the game more accessible to a younger audience but there is depth here to be found if you want it. I think Mojang have done a really good job of creating a core experience that Minecraft fans will enjoy.

Mafia II is still the game I know and love from 2010, with memorable missions, characters and a tone and time period that it nails as well as LA Noire. But there’s no denying this Definitive Edition is not in an optimal state.

7 / 10 - Maneater
May 27, 2020

I truly enjoyed Maneater despite it’s limitations and performance issues. In my head I would have preferred a more realistic simulation, but in practice that would have probably been boring after an hour or so. It is definitely one of the most unique games of 2020 so far and an experience I will remember fondly.

7 / 10 - Gorn
May 25, 2020

GORN is a lot of fun. Combat is very satisfying which is the core of your experience. Movement is my biggest fault with the game, but once you set up shop you can largely get away with staying in the one spot. It’s also a good cardio blast, which many of us could do with in the current climate.

Saints Row: The Third is on the high end of remasters. The bulk of the work has went in to visual upgrades, but that was what was needed most. With the game not aiming for realism, you can get away with the odd bit of sloppy AI or an unforeseen glitch. Sometimes it only ends up adding to the insanity and hilarity going on all around you. If you want a crazy, fun and exciting open world to blow stuff up in, you can’t go wrong!

Super Mega Baseball 3 is an improvement over the previous game in pretty much every area. It looks fantastic and manages to appeal to both newcomers and seasoned pros alike. Customisation is at the heart of the game. From the difficulty all the way to the creation suite Metalhead Software give you the agency to play how you want. The result is a game that all sports fans, not just baseball enthusiasts, should check out.

The Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners is probably the most complete experience on PSVR to date. An RPG with excellent combat, brilliantly implemented free movement and a proper campaign.

Streets of Rage 4 is a welcome return for a classic franchise. Hardcore fans of the series are likely to be smitten with the amount of fan service and love that has gone in to this and rightly so. In not overhauling the game further though it may lose some appeal with new gamers.

8 / 10 - Moving Out
Apr 25, 2020

Moving Out is the next great local co-op party game. The lack of online play is disappointing, but with all the accessibility options this is a title that will bring gamers and non gamers together. If you enjoyed games of a similar ilk like Overcooked you can’t go wrong with this title.

My Friend Pedro is an absolute gem of a game. It is one of the most fun releases on PS4 in some time. Varied level design and cool boss fights compliment the relatively short campaign, but the replay value is high and you will likely find yourself returning over and over again for better scores.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare II Campaign remastered is not only a mouthful, it’s great! I enjoy revisiting improved versions of games I loved years ago and I think £19.99 is an excellent budget price as well. If you didn’t play through this the first time around don’t expect the level of polish from last year’s entry to the series, but buckle yourself in for a thrill ride that rarely gives you a moment to breathe!
