Like its predecessor, Destroy All Humans! 2 – Reprobed is another fine example of a remake done right by modernizing the gameplay and graphics but respecting the overall experience.
Pac-Man World Re-Pac is a reminder of what the glory days of 3D platformers were like with little of the irritation.
SD Gundam: Battle Alliance encapsulates everything that makes the franchise iconic while also wanting to have fun with its world. As a work of Gundam media, it knows what the fans want while also encouraging them to explore the series. As a game, it knows how to be fun and understand what the player wants.
Thymesia is an indie studio’s love letter to the Dark Souls series and it makes no effort to hide it (in all the right ways). At the same time, it wants to introduce new gamers to the series with an experience that encapsulates what defines it but is scaled back in regards to time and grind.
Mothmen 1966 takes a familiar genre and adds a unique style to create an unforgettable work of horror. It’s a visual novel inspired by classic horror and pulps of the 60s but it does it so well. Making you shiver as the words appear on the screen and questioning your choices as your progress.
Bright Memory: Infinite is a fast-paced shooter that knows all too well what the player wants. The combat is fast paced and never stops while the gameplay is easy to learn. Overall, if you enjoyed the Crysis series back in the day then you will enjoy stepping into the shoes of Agent Shelia.
Disgaea 6 Complete takes players on another off-beat quest into the Netherworld with all the shenanigans one could expect from the series. From its upbeat take on the afterlife to a gallery of colorful characters, this is truly a worthy entry in the most evilest JRPG series.
In all the right ways, Deadly Premonition 2: A Blessing in Disguise is exactly what you would expect from a sequel to the cult classic. It’s a horror game that feels like an unofficial adaptation of Twin Peaks and you love it for that. It’s also a flawed game but that is also what makes it memorable.
Dread X Collection 5 is another promising entry in the indie horror anthology series that has its share of memorable nightmares. It has a good number of unforgettable titles while also having a few duds in the collection.
Kaiju Wars is one big love letter to the kaiju genre as it knows what defined it and what makes it so iconic. At the same time, it attempts to broaden the player’s horizon by encouraging them to look beyond Godzilla and works like Evangelion.
Deadly Dozen Reloaded is an old-school tactical World War II game that is polished in all the right ways. Visually and performance-wise, it’s a solid remake while having its fair share of issues.
The House of the Dead: Remake is a reunion for old-school gamers while introducing a new generation to the arcade classic. If you grew up playing the arcade version, you will absolutely enjoy the PC version of the remake. If you enjoy horror survivals then you give this classic a playthrough (especially with a friend).
Despite its performance issues, Postal 4: No Regerts functions better on Day 1 than Cyberpunk 2077 did five months after launch.
Hitman III brings The World of Assassination trilogy to a close with an unforgettable bang. The third game in the reboot brings it all together while perfecting the experience. Regardless of when one was introduced to the series, this is a game that has lived up to expectations.
Monark is a JRPG that understands its audience all too well while also standing out in its own right. It has the right balance of being a familiar experience while also keeping you invested in the journey.
Kingdom of the Dead will get your attention with its pen and ink style visuals while keeping you hooked with its retro-FPS inspired gameplay. Old school gamers will enjoy it for that retro-inspired gameplay and setting. Fans of shooters will enjoy it for being a modern take on a classic setup.
Shadow Man: Remastered is a more polished version of a cult classic that is a treat for fans of the original and retro titles. The PlayStation 4 version is also redemption for the shortcomings of the PS1 version. Overall; it’s a reminder of the many underlooked titles that help define that era of video games.
The Caligula Effect 2 better polishes many of the series-defining aspects while also keeping the classic JRPG elements. The world is more detailed and colorful while that upbeat soundtrack is still present. It’s still a cliché anime-inspired JRPG experience in all the right ways.
Mobile Suit Gundam Battle Operation Code Fairy expands on the lore by allowing players to experience the One Year War from the perspective of Zeon. Gundam fans will not be disappointed by an experience that uses Battle Operation 2 as the foundation for the gameplay and with an original story.
BloodRayne: ReVamped is a polished classic that is also a reminder of how so many titles that defined an era have become lost to time. Sometimes one yearns for a simpler time when blockbuster AAA games and indie darlings were not the only options while there were plenty of over-the-top titles in-between.
