Echoes of Aincrad ushers in a new era for Sword Art Online games, bringing long-requested elements such as a return to the series most famous arc with a brand-new story, while completely overhauling the series combat and exploration mechanics and establishing a solid foundation for the future of Sword Art Online in video games.

Star Fox on Nintendo Switch 2 brings back the classic foundation of Star Fox 64, recreating Fox McCloud and the Star Fox team’s mission against Dr. Andross in the Lylat System. The game opts for a more modern presentation, with revamped visuals, voiced dialogue, a more powerful soundtrack, new camera modes, and updated controls for the Switch 2. The campaign remains short and very familiar, but it works well thanks to its fast-paced arcade action, alternate routes, and the fun feeling of getting back into the Arwing. Battle Mode and Challenge Mode help extend the game’s longevity, even though the main experience is still clearly centered around the campaign.

Gothic 1 Remake is a faithful reimagining of the 2001 classic, preserving its core essence while delivering an immersive world that encourages players to explore and forge their own path. This approach may prove frustrating for those expecting a modern RPG experience, but it richly rewards players willing to embrace its harsh, dangerous world with a compelling adventure filled with memorable moments.

Breaking away from the studio's own track record, Mina the Hollower is original in how it seeks to both pay homage to and evolve a formula once perfected on handhelds of past generations; by adding its own touch of freedom, unique game design, and even a dash of modern trends—and despite occasional missteps—it establishes itself as one of the year's great retro-style indie titles.

Directive 8020 is a solid cinematic sci-fi horror experience, building an atmosphere of paranoia, mystery, and constant danger that evokes classic alien movies. Despite this, the game stumbles in some key areas. The stealth sections are overused and often feel forced, especially in the final stretch, making parts of the campaign feel repetitive.

Inspired by classic survival horror games, Hollowbody knows how to appeal to nostalgic players with its fixed camera angles and backtracking mechanics. However, it falls short by delivering an unimpactful story and uninspired enemies, failing to create the level of tension that is essential for the genre.

Schrödinger's Call is a contemplative and emotional visual novel that follows souls trapped between life and death, exploring their regrets, dreams, and unresolved feelings. Featuring an intimate narrative, an art direction inspired by illustrated books, and a delicate soundtrack, the game prioritizes the strength of its stories over major challenges or complex systems. It is a short yet deeply human experience, capable of inspiring reflections on loss, relationships, and what truly matters, leaving a lasting impression long after the final credits roll.

Yoshi and the Mysterious Book puts on a true display of creativity, breaking away from classic platforming genre elements by prioritizing exploration and discovery, making it one of the most unique titles within the platformer genre. The similar structure and lack of challenge in some stages may create a few inconveniences, but they do not take away from the brilliance of its incredibly creative level design or from how fun the experience of playing the game truly is.

Tales of ARISE arrives on Nintendo Switch 2 in its definitive edition, including the base game and its expansion DLC. The title delivers an extremely fun and stylish combat system, accompanied by a fantastic soundtrack and a gorgeous anime-inspired art direction. However, the experience is held back by overly linear exploration, limited enemy variety, and a narrative that doesn’t reach the same level of excellence as other games in the franchise. On Switch 2, performance issues also prevent this from being, at least for now, the definitive version of the game.

LEGO Batman: The Legacy of the Dark Knight masterfully delivers on its proposal to celebrate more than 80 years of the hero’s history, bringing a story packed with references and GREAT humor, alongside a lively Gotham City that invites exploration, marking the beginning of a new era for the franchise, despite stepping on a few LEGO bricks with a somewhat repetitive combat system and little enemy variety.

Call of the Elder Gods presents good ideas and interesting puzzles, but the game falls a bit short and is heavily hindered by tiring gameplay and an art direction that feels uninspired at times, taking away much of the title’s shine and potential.

Invincible VS is a fun and accessible fighting game, highlighted by its 3v3 system and stable online mode. The gameplay is addictive and works well, especially in matches against other players. On the other hand, the content is still limited, the story mode is disappointing, and some aspects of the combat could be more refined. Overall, it’s a solid start, with the potential to become one of the FGC’s new favorites as updates roll out.
