8.5 / 10.0 - Heavy Bullets
Sep 23, 2014

If you're looking for something a little different, and don't mind a bit of repetition, give Heavy Bullets a shot. Just remember to pick up your bullets after firing.

7.5 / 10.0 - Anomaly 2
Sep 25, 2014

It will take some patience to really succeed in Anomaly 2. That, on top of a good, planned out strategy. Players looking for a challenge will find it here, and the multiplayer, while still frantic, offers up a nice change of pace from the story mode.

4.5 / 10.0 - Natural Doctrine

It is most certainly not for me, but even I can see that there are some things that strategy fans will love about it. Just keep in mind if you do decide to pick this up, you're in for a very difficult, sometimes unfair, struggle.

CastleStorm has a ton of things to handle while playing, and while it's never a bad game, it feels like I was having to juggle too much at one time and ended up fumbling with the controller more times than not.

8 / 10.0 - Driveclub
Oct 7, 2014

Driveclub has the looks and the style of a great racing game. It even plays like a great racing game. The challenges and club mechanics can offer up a ton of content, and the extensive tour mode will keep players busy well into the 20 hour mark. It really is a great game; it just feels a bit unfinished in the car selection and customization fields. Racing fans should really check it out. I just hope you like European cars.

I would say pick it up, but if you do, try to at least convince one or two friends to pick it up with you. You'll all have a more enjoyable time together.

Fans of Borderlands should really check this out, even if it is against your "better judgment." There's still some fun stuff to be had in this series.

7.5 / 10.0 - Costume Quest 2
Oct 16, 2014

Costume Quest 2 is still a charming game. The writing, look and over all feel of the game had me constantly coming back, even when the combat and health mechanics dragged the game down a bit. Seeing all the new costumes and areas/time periods made me want to keep playing, and while the RPG elements are simplistic, there’s enough here for the casual RPG player. It has its missteps, but overall Costume Quest 2 is an improvement over the first game, and a pretty entertaining game that fans should really enjoy.

Aside from those two problems, the new South park tables are actually very well done. I enjoy a table that is easy to pick up and play, and the lane layout and mission structure make them a blast to play.

8.5 / 10.0 - Samurai Warriors 4
Oct 28, 2014

Of course, monotony does set in at times, but after a few breaks, I would always come back to it, ready to hack and slash some enemies. Fans of the series should not miss out on this game, and newcomers wanting to try out a Warriors game will find an easy and fun way to get into them with Samurai Warriors 4.

The mechanics put in place are so intelligent and add just enough risk and reward to keep players trying them out. It has a few missteps, but I saw past them and saw that this was much more than just a Dark Souls clone. Getting more games like this makes me excited for the future and for this series in particular.

Dragon Age: Inquisition hits every RPG itch I had, and on top of that, creates yet another world I want to get lost in for hours. Do yourself a favor and pick up the best RPG of the year.

3DS owners looking for a new RPG to dig into will find a fantastic one here. Persona fans shouldn't think twice about picking this up. It truly feels like a sequel to Persona 3 and Persona 4. The production value and game play are really well done, and very enjoyable.

Even with a more minimal story, Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire are still solid Pokémon games, and even very good turn-based RPGs. There's no denying the fact that these games require thought and strategy to beat, and there's always a ton of things to see and do in them. For Pokémon fans, of course you should pick this up. For people asking "will this get me into the series?" the answer is maybe.

8 / 10.0 - The Crew
Dec 16, 2014

I know many people have been skeptical of The Crew, and after playing it, I have no issues. Just exploring the world was a blast for me. My time spent with the game was very enjoyable, and with some friends it is even more fun. It has a few issues, but The Crew is a fun game with an action movie story that I think many will enjoy especially in co-op.

7 / 10.0 - Funk of Titans
Jan 7, 2015

Of course, it's not going to blow anyone's socks off, but it's not a bad game either. If you're looking for a fun distraction for about 4 hours and have nine bucks to spare, give it a shot. You may actually have a fun time like I did.

Unmechanical took me by surprise. Sure, we've all seen 2.5D puzzle games before, but this one really did a great job with the variety of the puzzles while keeping the main game simplistic enough to never keep me guessing for too long. The pacing is fantastic and the visual style is superb. While it may be on the short side, I still highly recommend picking up Unmechanical Extended. Like me, you may have a really fun time with it.

8.5 / 10.0 - Deathtrap

It may get difficult, but partying up with some friends and leveling up can combat that. For 20 bucks, you really can't go wrong with Deathtrap. I highly recommend it.

Fans of the Telltale adventure games and people looking for something unique in terms of storytelling and mechanics should really give Life is Strange a shot. It sets up a decent premise and keeps the player invested for the 3 hour duration of the episode. I for one enjoyed what I played, even when the dialog became "too hip" for me. I say give it a shot. It most certainly is something very different.

In the grand scheme of things, Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate is still very much a Monster Hunter game. What makes it stand out are the tweaks to progression. It really is the most accessible game in the series.
