Critic Reviews for ZEN Pinball 2: South Park: Super-Sweet Pinball

While not as ambitious as recent Marvel or Star Wars tables, South Park: Super-Sweet Pinball is a solid collection with a great sense of humor. The two tables are radically different and the objectives are a lot of fun to complete. Fans of the long-running TV series will get a kick out of the cameos and inside jokes, but everybody else will be left scratching their heads.

Aside from those two problems, the new South park tables are actually very well done. I enjoy a table that is easy to pick up and play, and the lane layout and mission structure make them a blast to play.

Zen Pinball 2: South Park Pinball is a perfect extra for pinball fans also obsessed with Kenny and crew, and its score chasing action is sure to keep you occupied for hours. Much of its appeal may go missing on those that aren't in love with the source material, but everyone else should give this a look.

The South Park pinball tables are easily among the best we've seen for both Zen Pinball 2 and Pinball FX 2, offering a great deal of variety – and laughs – each time you launch the ball. Some may miss the mature-rated humor – or wonder what the heck Chef is doing here – but overall, it's a swell time in Colorado.

If you haven't been keeping up with the series, I am happy to report that a lot of the game's references are to the first handful of seasons. A couple are from the first episode, in fact! There are a couple of newer episodes thrown in, but for the most part the missions revolve around the staples of the franchise. For $5, you get two tables rich in the venerable animated show's hijinks. Everyone's favorite character is likely featured here, and there is a lot of challenge to be found. If you're a fan of the series and enjoy pinball, buy it!

Pinball FX2's take on the popular South Park brand is a smorgasbord of fan service. Neither table is an essential buy if you're a pinball wizard, but they're competent enough to at least give you a decent chuckle for your buck.

South Park Pinball offers two smartly designed tables that were obviously crafted by people who care about the source material. Unless someone feels that they absolutely require the bold and often crass humor of the show itself, I can't imagine any fan of the show being disappointed with what's being offered here.

Fan service is what South Park Pinball does best, so if you're reading this because of your affinity for the television series, rest assured that this mini celebration of the brand totally delivers in that regard.
