8.9 / 10.0 - Chivalry 2
Jun 11, 2021

Chivalry 2 is a fantastic medieval multiplayer brawler created with care by the studio that first heralded the genre. Although there are a few missteps and issues here and there, you'll have an absolute blast playing whether you're a battle-hardened knight or a noob nave.

8.8 / 10.0 - LEGO Dimensions
Oct 6, 2015

This a great break away from for the Lego series with some clever tricks to keep the old mechanics fresh and lovely design. Seeing your favourite shows and games Legoified never gets old, and having them collide is as funny as you'd hope.

Although it might not be dragging people away from Call of Duty or the giants of the genre, PvZ: Garden Warfare 2 has a great atmosphere and some really enjoyable moments. If you've ever wanted to do battle as a piece of corn, sunflower or superhero zombie, this might be the only game to fill that niche.

Assassin's Creed Syndicate is an amazing action/adventure. It has evolved past its humble crusading beginning, and entered the industrial age of looming cities, intriguing missions and solid combat. While it still isn't the most challenging game, it proves to be warm, friendly and massively engrossing.

Before the Storm is a glimpse into a struggling mind. It is a not a blank canvas to create your own character, but the story of one person meeting another. Beautiful and flawed.

This War of Mine: The Little Ones adds more to the game that makes it both wholeheartedly enjoyable and deeply distressing. Its survival mechanics are impressively weighted, and the events throughout the war are harrowing. This feels like a game everyone should experience for themselves.

8.6 / 10.0 - NBA 2K17
Sep 21, 2016

NBA 2K17 is the greatest basketball game ever made, bar none. That said, it's not really accessible at first for newcomers, so keep that in mind; if you intend to venture into the MyCareer mode, be prepared for lots of unnecessary cutscenes, too.

8.6 / 10.0 - Lego Worlds
Mar 23, 2017

LEGO Worlds does an interesting job in standing out from the competition. It has had years to develop its own brand of digital block building, and for the most part it succeeds. Although its controls are a little fiddly, its freedom to build and explore are amazingly detailed.

Frozen Synapse 2 effectively builds onto the first game with new weapons and a deeper sense of action and anticipation. The single player is unfortunately tepid compared the multiplayer, but the game is nevertheless an essential strategy addition.

8.5 / 10.0 - Yooka Laylee
Apr 4, 2017

It might not be as good as your vague memories of the hallowed games of Rare, but Yooka-Laylee has a little bit of that old lovable magic in it. It may be made for children, but there is a little something that can make the old and miserable smile again. That alone is worth it.

Although it might not be as strong as Episode One, it builds in confidence and understands exactly what we want out of this story. Sad, happy, heartwarming and heartbreaking, Episode Two is an emotional experience.

While it's more than a little weird to play such an outdated version of the game, Stellaris is always an interesting and deep, not to mention surprising, 4X game to pick up. In addition to that, it doesn't have much of a competition on consoles.
