PAYDAY 2 on the Nintendo Switch is a very unique experience for the platform. The lack of voice chat hurts, and the game can be pretty repetitive at times in terms of what you do within the missions, but the game is undeniably fun, especially with friends.

If you haven't played the Revelations games before, this is a great way to do such. Switch-specific features, solid gameplay, good graphics, and fun online are the highlights of this collection, and being able to play them anywhere is a great convenience.

L.A Noire is a fantastic game that finds a home on the Nintendo Switch, and the portability aspect really helps. While each case is pretty large, the ability to save (along with auto-saves) at any time makes this a perfect game for on the go or at home. Rockstar put the effort into this port and it shows. Sure, it's a bit of an older game and does show some age from time to time, but L.A. Noire is another great triple-A third party release that shouldn't be overshadowed by games like Skyrim and DOOM. If you are looking for a fantastic story-driven game with unique gameplay, L.A. Noire should be in your Switch library.

DOOM on the Switch is a great package. The fact that you can take this game with you wherever you go and play this game at any time is pretty amazing considering this was one of the most graphically intense games of 2016.

6.5 / 10.0 - Sonic Forces
Nov 8, 2017

It's not a great game, but it's solid. It looks nice, plays smooth, and the gameplay variety is solid. It's an average 3D Sonic game at a budget price, and that's not really a bad thing.

This is the Police isn't a bad game, but it feels like the game could have been much more interesting with a little more variety in the actual gameplay. Managing your cops can be fun, and some interesting things happen throughout the course of the game, but a little more variety to keep things fresh throughout would have went a long way with the game. As it stands This is the Police is a decent game that, for many, will overstay its welcome.

4.5 / 10.0 - Don't Knock Twice
Oct 20, 2017

If the frame-rate was smooth and the game was more technically sound, I could see potential for a fun horror game. The atmosphere is nice, the audio is extremely well done, and the story seems pretty interesting as well. It's just a shame that the frame-rate is so bad that you probably won't make it til the end to see the conclusion.

8.5 / 10.0 - NBA 2K18
Sep 29, 2017

All in all though, NBA 2K18 is a welcome addition to the Switch library. It's great to have realistic hoops back on a Nintendo platform, and 2K knocked it out of the park with their debut Switch title. It looks great, plays great, and if the kinks can get patched should be the start of a great franchise finally embracing a Nintendo platform.

If you are a Wii U veteran of the series, there may not be enough here to warrant a second purchase, but diehard Pokken fans will want to check it out. Pokken Tournament DX is another fantastic Switch release and a game that fighting fans will want to check out.

Metroid: Samus Returns is a great return to form after the Federation Forces debacle and should make fans of the series happy with the final product. Aside from a few presentation hiccups and difficulty curve, the improved visuals and added content make for a solid entry in the Metroid universe. We have been waiting for Samus to return for a little while now, but the wait has been worth it.

Monster Hunter Stories is a delightful game that surprised the hell out of me. It's pretty, it's fun, it's fresh, and a real departure from the original series but still retains elements to keep it familiar. If you like JRPG's or monster collecting games like Pokemon, Monster Hunter Stories is a must own. Just don't go into the game expecting a traditional style, and you will be surprised with how good it is.

As a whole though, Implosion really surprised me. It looked like it would be a Metal Gear Revengence-style game from an indie developer, and that's pretty much how it played out. It looks good, plays great, and is a very solid and affordable title for the Nintendo Switch. If you are looking for something a bit darker and faster paced on the Switch, Implosion is a solid choice.

8 / 10.0 - Vaccine

I loved it when I was a kid, so I ended up enjoying myself way more than probably anyone else will with Vaccine.

Oceanhorn is an interesting game that some people will enjoy and some people will hate. The inspiration drawn from Zelda oozes all throughout the game, and that can be a bit off-putting for some. For myself however, I think Zelda-clones should end up becoming a new thing. Considering the amount of years we have to wait between Zelda entries, why not embrace games that capture the spirit of a classic franchise? Oceanhorn isn't original, it isn't perfect, and it isn't necessarily memorable, but not every game can be. It's a simple, fun Zelda-clone that will bring fans of the franchise great enjoyment in between sessions of Breath of the Wild.

All in all, I've been really enjoying my time with Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers. If you aren't a fan of the genre, this won't be a game that changes your mind, and while some feel the price tag is a bit too high for the game, I've gotten a ton of enjoyment from it thus far.

Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia really surprised me. What I thought would be a simple spin-off game ended up being arguably the best Fire Emblem game I've played.

8 / 10.0 - KAMIKO
May 2, 2017

Kamiko is a fun pick-up and play experience, with great visuals, good gameplay, and makes for a fun retro-inspired experience. It's worth exploring the game with each of the 3 characters just to see how different they actually play, which adds some replay value to the title. If you are looking for an inexpensive game for a weekend playthrough, Kamiko is a good pick.

The Binding of Isaac is a game I've honestly never played before. It seems like a game I'd enjoy, with it's dark humor and violence, but I never checked it out for whatever reason. So when The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+ was announced for the Switch, I really didn't pay too much attention to it. However, when Nicalis announced the game would have a physical release that actually included a manual, I decided to pay some more attention to the game. After debating, I finally picked up The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+. So, am I happy with my decision?
