Joey Davidson's Reviews

Hey there, I'm Joey. I've been writing about video games on the internet for more than a decade now. You'll find my work, both reviews and features, on all sorts of sites. I play a ton of video games across as many genres as I can. I started with Paperboy on the NES as a kid, and gaming has been a non-stop passion ever since. I own and cover all platforms. It's been terrible for my wallet.

...there hasn't been a Mario game like this for me since Super Mario World.

It may not be a perfect experience, but it's a real blast for anyone who likes these types of games.

9 / 10.0 - Starwhal
Feb 27, 2015

If you game in groups, pull the trigger on this one. It's absolutely nuts, but it's easy learning curve, wealth of content and humor make Starwhal a blast for group play.

It's a great joke of a game where the punchline can be felt by both players and spectators, and that's why I think Octodad is so special.

Broken Age is silky smooth, deliciously humorous, visually stunning and completely delightful.

9 / 10.0 - Mario Kart 8
May 15, 2014

Nintendo's created a heck of a Mario Kart game that's great for fans and newcomers alike. It's what this series should be.

My one recommendation: take your time...enjoy a little bit of the tale and keep it in the background as a great break from real life.

9 / 10.0 - Pokemon X and Y
Oct 21, 2013

Pokémon X and Y is a stellar entry in the series. Get it.

Horizon Zero Dawn is, at times, the best game on the PlayStation 4.

8.5 / 10.0 - MLB 15: The Show
Apr 6, 2015

Now, if you're new to PlayStation with the PlayStation 4 and you love baseball? Get MLB 15: The Show. There isn't much to complain about for new players at all.

If you've enjoyed FIFA before, 15 is a strong year, and you'll likely get your money's worth.

8.5 / 10.0 - Resogun
Nov 24, 2013

...if you haven't played Resogun yet and you call yourself a PlayStation 4 owner, it's time to download it, install it and get dodging, shooting and freaking out.

Familiarity be damned, this game feels like a deliberate labor of love from Retro Studios.

It's great, yes, but it doesn't fire in the same way that the latter portions of the first season did.

Telltale's convinced us: The Wolf Among Us is going to be very good. You need to sign up for the ride.

Mario Golf: World Tour is easily the best sporting effort from Camelot in a long time.

Oct 15, 2014

I know I said I didn't have fun with the game, but that's because it was almost too much for me to bear during a holiday season. But for the gamer who wants to settle in for a really long ride with a well-written, lovingly crafted, difficult game set in a solid post-apocalyptic world, Wasteland 2 is great.

As it stands now, Inside My Radio is a really novel concept that's fun and great for the majority of its play. I give the game this: It never overstays its welcome. It's too bad that it's so short, though. I was having fun right up until that last boss battle, and I wanted more.

The best way I enjoyed this game was to fire it up in the morning, grab a cup of coffee, and prepare for a few hours to vanish.

8 / 10.0 - Teslagrad
Apr 21, 2015

If you're entirely new to this experience, I absolutely recommend Teslagrad as a great puzzle platformer. It arrived a bit before the genre became way too crowded, though the two years that have passed since then certainly haven't helped. What we have here is a well made 2D effort, and explorers who aren't tired of the genre will enjoy this one for its silent storytelling and magnetic puzzle mechanics.
