In the end, Unruly Heroes is a lot of fun as both a game you can just sit back and enjoy with friends and family. It has all the makings of an entertaining platform, which you'll enjoy for hours on end. It also makes for a fun party game, just make sure you're not drunk – you might die a bit too much. I just wish the game lasted a bit longer than it did. However, if you enjoy platformers, I'd definitely recommend giving this game a try.
Dead or Alive 6, is hands down the best title in the series. Lots of content, various modes to get you in fighting form and I found the gameplay incredibly fun. It's almost the total package, with the exception of the online lobbies not being in yet. Still, if that doesn't matter to you, a great time will be found in a game that doesn't take its self too seriously. Which is absolutely fine by me.
In the end, Devil May Cry 5 doesn't reinvent the wheel. Instead, it takes everything that fans of the series loved, dials it up to 11 and presents one of the best game in the series yet. Right up there with Devil May Cry 1 and 3 for me. Plenty of combat, the pacing is just right, and a nice amount of content to play through once you've reached the end. My only gripe is those blasted microtransactions, which I feel has no place in a game like this. A minor inconvenience in what I consider an enjoyable action game that I haven't been able to put down. It looks like Capcom has yet another GOTY contender on their hands. Devil May Cry 5 is every bit the game I was looking forward to and then some.
State of Decay 2 basically takes everything that made the first game enjoyable, tosses in base building and more interesting NPCs. The combat is just as visceral and you'll still fight to stay alive in this post-apocalyptic zombie-filled world. A tad repetitive at times but still has more than enjoy to keep you entertained.
Now, this is a proper anime game adaption. While making improvements over the first game, Omega Force has tightened the controls, made the screen less clunky and upped the amount of another. I would have liked the game to stray a bit more from the source material, still the title stands out of being what it is. It's fun, frantic and will keep you busy on ours on end, while you ou dish out some punishment to those darned Titans
The Surge: A Walk in the Park is an enjoyable venture off the beaten path. While it takes place during the main storyline, it has just enough plot and substance to be enjoyable. With new weapons and armor to be had, there's something here for everyone. However, for those who are heavily invested in the game, there might not be enough to warrant the adventure.
I'm glad that Battle Chasers: Nightwar was finally released, despite never being on my radar. This title is a breath of fresh air with several innovative battle mechanics, enjoyable characters and a return to my beloved turn-based gaming. The story could have been better, but for those looking for more Battle Chasers, you're going to be in love with it.
In the end, Project CARS 2 takes everything that Slightly Mad Studios did for the original game, polishes it up and puts out perhaps the best racing title available on the PlayStation 4. Tons of cars, more tracks than you can shake a stick at, a full-fledged career mode and online options. Better controls, fantastic visuals, and PlayStation 4 Pro support. Yes, there are some rough areas and the sound isn't as good as I would have liked. Still, in the end, Project CARS 2 is an enjoyable and fantastic effort that I'm sure PlayStation 4 racing fans are going to enjoy.
Sine Mora EX isn't actually the shining beacon that all SHMUP's should inspire to be, but that game is still a fantastic entry. But for the price, exceptionally replay value and fantastic visuals, you definitely can't go wrong snagging up the title for a weekend venture. A fantastic skyward entry that both novices to the genre and grizzled SHMUP vets can both enjoy.
All in all, Children of the Zodiarcs is a handsome merging of two beloved game types and one that manages to capture the best of them.
The Evil Within 2 does a good job of finishing the original story. Seb gets reunited with his daughter and overcomes his guilt. That said, the game revisits multiple events from the first game. This assumes you've played it and if not, you're left following scraps of content from the game. Outside of the story, the game is quite different from the first. It's a good follow-up, even if the horror takes a back seat to the action. Thankfully the game also addresses the performance issues from the first game and it runs like a champ (if you have the hardware). A solid entry for those new to the survival horror genre. While veterans may be a bit disappointed as the game puts more focus on combat than providing the scares. Still, fans of the first game will eat this up and come back for seconds.
All in all, Mr. Shifty is easily one of the better games I've played in a while. And that's nice to see in a gaming industry that includes AAA, billion dollar to make games. It's simply, it's fast, tight controls and more importantly, it's fun. The very first time I played this game, I clocked in 3 hours, without even knowing it.
Plenty of action, a nice amount of selectable characters, a kick-ass soundtrack and tight controllers. This is the formula for one fantastic, fun and rage induced gaming session when it comes to bullet hell shooters. The only thing that drags this game down is the fact that it's so short. Just as you're rocking along and taking it in, the game abruptly ends, leaving you wanting more.
While Fast RMX is the only game in town for Nintendo Switch owners, thankfully it's a fantastic experience. Breakneck speed, responsive controls, plenty of tracks to race on and a vast list of vehicles. Toss in the added challenge of the higher end leagues and hero mode and you have a game you'll play for a long time. Once Shin'en Multimedia adds in the time trial and online friend racing, Fast RMX will be the defacto racing title for the Nintendo Switch.
Rise & Shine is a fantastic adventure and a change of pace for the traditional 2D side-scroller. A great looking game that plays well and has a lot going for it. Great gameplay, interesting characters and a nice change of protagonist as well. Sadly, the game is a bit on the short side and can be beaten in 4-5 hours. The ride is definitely worth the time spent, yet once you beat the game the first time, there's nothing to do afterward.
Xanadu Next is a fun romp and a nice eye opener to games that were created years or even decades ago. It shows that they can still stand the test of time and remain enjoyable. I was hard pressed to put down the game until I finished it and while I wished it was a bit easier on the eyes, there's no denying the charm that Xanadu Next generates.
This is like if you took Earth Defense Force, Starship Troopers and Guardian Heroes and tossed them into a blender. A wonderfully action packaged game, tons of fun combat and a vast customization system, Earth's Dawn is well worth the price of admission.
If Two Tribes' plan was to go out with a loud and glorious bang, they have succeeded in doing just that.
Still for all the shortcomings addressed, Headlander is an enjoyable title. It doesn't take itself too seriously, as evident by all of the tongue and cheek humor, nor is it really difficult (Not completely anyway). As a Double Fine Productions game, It's right up there with some of their best, I just wish it was a tad longer and didn't spend too much time focus on slapstick comedy and included more gameplay content. For the asking price for $20, Headlander is a great choice for enjoying 8-10 hours of gaming fun. Perhaps the game would have been a tad better if it didn't stick too close to the tried and true Metroidvania gameplay and swam a bit more in the deep end. Still, at the end of the day, I enjoyed myself and I'm sure you will as well.
When people mention shmups on the PC, they don't mention Stardust Galaxy Warriors and after playing this gem I feel that is a crime. Tight controls, catchy music, every game is handled different thanks to the customization and 4 play co-op make this game stand out in a big way. In fact, the only thing that hurts this title is that it's an offline affair only. That said, for $10 you'll have a blast, literally. And if you have 3 people to play with then you're in for one hell of a time. Hopefully, we'll also see some much-needed DLC as the game as it stands if pretty short, that is unless you keep coming back to the gauntlet and challenge modes.
