As an action game and platformer, Eekeemoo leaves a lot to be desired. Thankfully, the experience doesn't overstay its welcome and its laid the groundwork to build upon (hopefully) for future installments.
Vaccine makes an admirable attempt to recapture the original survival horror style game, both looking and playing the part. Unfortunately, the advancements that developers have made in the past 20 years have made games like Vaccine obsolete.
MX Nitro is an interesting game because despite how difficult I found the campaign, I kept retrying, sometimes spending an hour on a single level. The action just kept flowing with near-instant restarts and fun trick combos. Two things will turn a lot of players off, however: lack of true multiplayer and price.
For the most part, Spheroids is a fun platformer and Pang hybrid that older and younger gamers will enjoy. Keep in mind that all 8 chapters can be completed in a couple hours, at a cost of $7.99. This game is worth it for gamerscore fans, but I don't see many players coming back after earning all achievements. If you are looking for a unique game that doesn't overstay its welcome, Spheroids might be for you.
There is plenty of fun to be had, but in the end Halo Wars 2 feels like just another decent game from a popular franchise.
Despite the similar formula to previous games, I'm feeling absolutely no franchise fatigue after hours of playing Sniper Elite 4. Every aspect of the game benefits from the change in setting and devotion to current generation hardware.
With multiple gameplay modes, difficulty settings, co-op and leaderboards, there is a lot of content in Aqua Kitty UDX. This is the type of game that screenshots and videos don’t do justice, you need to get your hands on it to really appreciate how fun it is. Fans of shmups will enjoy the challenging yet rewarding gameplay.
Candleman is a game that is unique and a joy to play. Every chapter provided a different gameplay element which kept things fresh.
Nevermind is a game unlike any I have ever played before and one that is worth experiencing. I would have preferred it to be much scarier than it is, perhaps turning to cult classic Eternal Darkness for inspiration. Once you complete the five missions there isn’t much incentive to collect all the memories, aside from achievements/trophies. The game is also a bit pricey at $19.99 USD, which may turn some off. Even though I didn’t get scared, I never knew what to expect when probing the mind of the next patient. If you are up for trying something new and have some extra cash, Nevermind will definitely get you thinking.
If you were to tell me a month ago, that a mobile port would possibly be my favorite indie FPS, I’d have a hard time believing you. Yet here we are with Dead Effect 2, a game that more than satisfies my single player itch. Graphically it looks great, controls are nearly perfect and they managed to balance the gameplay to keep it challenging but not overly frustrating. Every kill and every dollar are meaningful and when shooters have meaning they are hard to put down.
While I don’t think any game is perfect, Rise & Shine is incredibly exemplary. Highly recommended.
Momonga Pinball Adventures definitely scores points with me when it comes to originality, responsive controls and a charming world. Serious fans of pinball should stick with the more traditional games mentioned in the introduction, as this game won't scratch that pinball itch much. Everyone else looking for something lighthearted, or especially something for younger children, shouldn't be afraid of giving Momonga Pinball Adventures a shot.
I keep coming back to the thought that Bard's Gold keeps me coming back. I play a lot of games and retro inspired ones can be the most frustrating; more often than not I just give up and move on to something else. Bard's Gold is different from those, I'm rewarded for my efforts in success and failure.
The combat can get repetitive, the jumping is awful, and the difficulty ranges from extremely easy to extremely hard. Despite these faults there is still plenty enjoyment to be had in the game, along with a jenesequa that kept me trying again and again.
For all the time I spent enjoying the Dwarves, there was equal amounts of frustration, boredom and disappointment.
Silence stayed true to its name with a quiet release and little fanfare heading into December. It ended up being one of my most memorable and enjoyable games of the entire year.
Attack on Titan from Koei Tecmo does a very good job of introducing the series to new players through compelling and fun action. Fans of the series may not find many surprises in the story, but it is still worth playing none-the-less. While it suffers from similar repetitive gameplay as its Dynasty Warriors predecessors, I found it to be enjoyable from start to finish. There is just enough variation among Titan types and characters to make things feel slightly different each time.
It’s hard to recommend R.B.I. Baseball 16 to anyone but the hardest of the hardcore MLB fan. If you only own an Xbox One and you need a baseball game, I think you will find some enjoyment here. I would suggest those people to check out Super Mega Baseball, which released late last year, for a true arcade baseball experience.
Overall: 8.5/10
