Angelo D'Argenio's Reviews
Metro 2033 Redux is remaking done right. This isn't a cash in in any way shape or form. It's simply a much better version of the original Metro. It's a perfect purchase for either newbies who haven't experienced the first game, or vets who want to experience the game again in a brand new light. I wholeheartedly recommend Metro 2033 Redux to anyone who is a fan of shooters, horror games, stealth games or post-apocalyptic sci-fi.
In short, GTA V is still a great game, that hasn't changed, but the PC version doesn't add a lot and introduces plenty of new problems that you have to contend with. If you are graphics-obsessed or are a fan of machinima, then pick it up. Otherwise, the last-gen versions will do you fine.
It turns a lot of shooter conventions on their heads. There's just a lot of stuff you can do in Loadout that you can't do in any other shooter on the market, which makes it worth putting up with some grinding and money siphoning. It's fun, it's frantic and it's filled with the types of guns that you drew in the margins of your notebook in grammar school. It's worth a free trial at the very least. The developers, Edge of Reality, promise tons of new maps, game modes and even gun parts will release in the future, and if that's the case that Loadout might even give Team Fortress 2 a run for its money.
Even if you don't pick up the expansion right now you should definitely pick it up as soon as it goes on Steam sale. After all, who can put a price tag on giant robot soldiers punching aliens in the face? It worked for Pacific Rim and it works here too.
Kingdom Hearts 3 was a good game and an enjoyable experience, but it's not the best Kingdom Hearts game in the franchise. There is plenty of room for improvement, and hopefully we will see that room explored if KH3 ever gets a final mix release.
The game is perfectly crafted to push you closer to the end, and with it the answer to a mystery that has been built up over the last three titles.
Pokémon Sun and Moon is full of welcome innovations that make the Pokémon formula feel new and fresh. It’s a perfect way to celebrate Pokémon’s 20th anniversary.
Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia is a worthy entry to the series and a great way to hold you over until Fire Emblem comes out on the Switch, despite some questionable DLC policies.
Metroid: Samus Returns is a must-purchase for any long-time Metroid fan and a perfect example of the genre. It bodes well for Metroid's future and makes me excited for Samus's next big adventure.
Under Night In-Birth EXE: Late{st} is a fighting game that deserves to be played but will inevitably be overshadowed by its competition. It's a shame because its $50 price tag is worth it for the tutorial alone.
Frostpunk is one of the best sim games to come out in decades. If you want a more bleak and depressing twist on the age old genre of city management, this is your game.
At 15 dollars and a little bit of elbow grease to get it working, Jimmy and the Pulsating Mass is one of the most enjoyable and affordable RPG experiences in recent memory.
Moral Kombat 11 is one half perfect fighting game, one half exploitative mobile game. It's worth playing despite its flaws, but it easily stands as an example of how even the best games can be ruined by questionable monetization practices.
Death end re:Quest is not for everyone. Many people will be made uncomfortable by its moe aesthetic. However, if you have similar experience with games such as Danganronpa, Doki Doki Literature Club, or anime such as Magical Girl Site, Made in Abyss, or No Game No Life, then you will not only be able to tolerate Death end re;Quests aesthetic, you might even enjoy it, and that leaves you free to experience the incredibly ambitious and innovative game underneath.
Like we said, we can't call Super Mario Maker 2 a bad game, not by a long shot. It's just that it could be better. Heck, if a few usability issues were fixed and a few more items were added to maker mode, we would be giving this game a perfect 10/10. As it stands, there's room for improvement and hopefully we will see that improvement in future DLC patches.
It's a shame that the gameplay is so shoddy at times, because I truly believe that Tell Me Why is one of the most important games of our time, in terms of social impact. Hopefully later episodes won't feel as awkward to play.
Watch Dogs: Legion is an interesting game with an innovative system and a compelling story. It's not a blockbuster hit and it probably won't make the running for GOTY this year, but its experimental systems and socially resonant plot make it worth checking out.
Ghosts 'n Goblins Resurrection is an attempt to make an old-school absurdly difficult quarter muncher a game worth playing in the modern era, and it delightfully succeeds.
Enter the Gungeon is an incredibly addicting indie game that will keep you coming back for more. It goes to great lengths to improve on the rogue-like genre, fixing flaws and tightening balance, all with a tongue-in-cheek presentation that can't help but make you smile… if you like shooting things, that is.
If you are a fan of Fire Emblem or tactical games in general, Fire Emblem Fates will not disappoint.
