8 / 10.0 - KAMIKO

absolutely love the colorful art style that makes up the set pieces that themselves tell a story of a forgotten post-apocalyptic world, and the soundtrack is composed of retro-inspired chiptune. While the game is quite short, what is here is worth playing for the cost of entry.

8 / 10.0 - TumbleSeed
May 2, 2017

TumbleSeed is a game that I don't think I'll ever completely finish, but it's damn impressive for those that dare to stomach its difficulty. If you're the kind of person looking for a mostly skill based game that is brutally challenging, yet very entertaining, then TumbleSeed is for you. More casual players will want to save their money and sanity for games a bit more accessible to them. Honestly, the biggest mistake here is that the developers haven't offered multiple difficulties, which will surely limit the potential player base.

I'm glad LocoRoco is back, even if it isn't as perfect as I remember it being when it first released 11 years ago. This remaster adds tilt controls, 4K/HD graphics, rumble, and surround sound, all for a reasonable price. If you've never played LocoRoco and you love cute games, now is the time. Those looking for a challenging game that will last them till the next big AAA release will want to look elsewhere.

8 / 10.0 - Overwatch
May 24, 2016

A decent hero-based shooter that is light on content and heavy on grinding for cosmetics, unless of course you'd like to buy some micro-transactions.

Currently the best multiplayer experience on the Oculus Rift, if only the servers were more populated due to the bungled launch of the Rift. Easily recommendable once more people have headsets if you've got a hankering for space dogfighting.

Lucky's Tale comes free with the Oculus Rift headset, so you might as well play it, especially if you yearn for the colourful platformers of yesteryear.

8 / 10.0 - Immortal Redneck
Feb 26, 2018

While Immortal Redneck doesn't necessarily bring anything new to the table, it does successfully combine the speed of old-school FPS like Unreal Tournament and Quake with roguelike elements to make a pretty fun little game worth your time if you don't mind a little grind.

Objectively, this is the worst version of Doom, but that doesn't really matter because it is the best version on the Nintendo Switch.

Kirby Star Allies is by far the easiest and shallowest game in the series, but is still an enjoyable experience, especially when played with friends.

7.5 / 10.0 - Aerannis

Aerannis is a beautiful, diverse metroidvania with solid mechanics mixed in with some tin-foil hat madness, and regardless of your political views you should give it a shot; you might just enjoy it, I know I did.

7.5 / 10.0 - Chronos (VR)
May 2, 2016

I'd estimate the entire game took me around seven or eight hours maximum, though it could be finished quicker by skilled players. The deciding factor on whether or not Chronos is worth the $50 asking price is probably how much you love Zelda games or how hard up you are for something that feels like a fully-realized game for the Oculus Rift. Even with satisfying combat, an art style reminiscent of Guillermo del Toro, and virtual reality, I can't help but feel $50 is a smidgen too expensive. I guess that is the price you pay as an early adopter of VR.

7.5 / 10.0 - Halloween Forever
Oct 31, 2016

While Halloween Forever is simple, I think the developer achieved what it set out to do, which is to make a fun, pick-up-and-play platformer that would feel at home on the NES. As someone who loves the console and still goes back and plays its games, I can appreciate this spooky little game. It's cute, it's easy, it's colorful, it has a decent chiptune-ish soundtrack, and it illustrates perfectly how we all feel about candy corn (barf).
