Spectrum is a minimalistic platformer which really tests your patience with it’s more advanced Dark World levels. The simplistic nature of the game makes this a great game to pick up and play in short bursts, but there is also enough content for longer play sessions as well. The addition of a two-player time-attack mode was fun, but it doesn’t deviate from the core mechanic of the main game or offer anything new other than declaring who’s the fastest between the two players. However, based on the current price point and how much time Spectrum entertained us, I wouldn’t have any issues recommending this to casual gamers or those looking for a simple game they can just pick up and play.
Zarvot is a great combination of addictive gameplay, beautiful visuals and frantic action – it’s so much fun! Bar a few issues I had with the visual quality of the menus, everything looks gorgeous and so realistic – well, as realistic as a cuboid world could be! It’s a relaxing and playful game to wind down with after a hard days work, yet also a very challenging and competitive game within its Arcade and Multiplayer modes. From the surprisingly great story to the fun multiplayer, this is a game which you’ll want to come back to again and again.
911 Operator is an interesting game which truly shows what it is like to be the person at the end of the phone who has to direct emergency crews around cities. This won’t make you envy the job but hopefully, give empathy. The game suffers from the repetitive nature of the missions, but I don’t think anyone is an expecting fast high-octane action. For the price, I imagine fans of strategy and simulation games will get the most out of this title!
The game is not without its problems. I, honestly, did not like the game at first. As a gamer used to fast-paced action titles with cars that can go 0-100 mph in under 5 seconds, this game was like a tortoise racing a hare.
The Jackbox Party Pack 5 never fails to entertain when it comes time to gather up friends for a fun evening of video games. From the tried-and-tested return of You Don’t Know Jack, to the new and wacky party games, every iteration in the franchise is a joy to put on when you have a few mates around and fancy a great time. There are plenty of moments where you’ll be caught off guard with how silly it can be and how stupid it makes you behave. Definitely a must-have for anyone that likes party style games!
Yomawari: The Long Night Collection is a survival horror game that is unique because of its gorgeous, and cute, art style. It looks so innocent, but it packs the punch of a deep, depressing story mixed in with sheer horror as you never know when an enemy is going to jump out at you. Both stories follow a very similar plot with the same mechanics and emphasis on stealth - at times it feels like Yomawari 1 and 1.5 rather than 2. You'll also find yourself becoming more and more frustrated as you continue to die over and over again.
The RPG element pulls from the tabletop side version of the game with character sheets and skill checks. With the different encounters you have with people, you will have dialogue choices that will change the flow of the story.
Let us talk about the racing itself. It’s fast, hella fast! Your car can get up to high 700 mph fast!! Even Sonic can’t hold a candle to that. The beauty of Grip is that the race can go in many directions, as there is no one direct path to make it through a course. With the ability to your vehicle up virtually any walls and onto the ceiling, you can find yourself in the middle of a race and see someone above you, or on the wall beside you. This is a refreshing way to race in a time where most racing games are cut and dry.
The fact that Rage in Peace is Rolling Glory Jam’s first game they have created is truly unbelievable. You can literally feel the passion that every member of the team has for the game as you play this wonderful indie title. Sure, it has its moments, which feel cheap, when the difficulty gets to a point where you have to either focus really hard to conquer that section or just walk away and take a break. However, wanting to know how the story concludes is what pushed me through those tough parts, and I am glad it did. I plan on keeping an eye on this studio in the future!
You are able to move in three dimensions in a 2.5 dimension action-racing arcade game, think of it like driving in lanes. These lanes can take you all over the place depending on the level.
Diablo III is one of those games that seems to come out on every platform, but there is a damn good reason for it. Even after almost 7 years, it still holds up as one of the best dungeon crawlers we have seen to date. The graphics are great, the music is great, the overall experience of Diablo III: Eternal Collection still gives me eternal joy. It’s rejuvenated my hype for the day when Blizzard Entertainment finally announces Diablo 4.
The Forest was an experience that took me some getting used to because I'm not used to non-linear games. However, once you realise that you can do whatever you want, you eventually grow to enjoy it. It did take me a few hours to appreciate what the game has to offer, but once I figured out what I was doing, I understood the hype behind the game a little bit more. Trophy hunters beware, this game will be a VERY difficult game to achieve the coveted Plat!
Overall, I enjoyed my time with Toast Time: Smash Up! It is a nice call-back to the simpler times in gaming. Honestly, I could see myself playing this game back when I was 10 with my original Game Boy. It is a wacky time when you’re able to get 4 friends together to play! The single player was addictive enough that players will be able to ignore the difficulty being off at times. All in all, though, playing this game made me that much more excited for breakfast tomorrow morning!
In Death is a game that is definitely worth adding to your collection of PlayStation VR titles. Despite the Roguelike gameplay, you will find that with each death, you are ready to jump right back in immediately to try and better your last run. The great visuals and sound effects are aesthetically pleasing, and the only small details that people may not like are easily forgivable by the overall experience the game has to offer.
I feel as if Dynasty Warriors 8 Xtreme Legends is the best possible choice of the massive library of games to come to the Nintendo Switch. Having most of the DLC at your fingertips offers players an insanely large amount of game to play. Though I do believe that most people will probably play only so much of the game, folks with a tight budget will appreciate the amount of content Koei Tecmo has put into this game. It can get repetitive if you play it in long game sessions, but at least you are always working on levelling or acquiring new items. Plus you can’t beat portable Lu Bu!!
Everything I said about Pipe Push Paradise being hard is very true. You can look at that as a nice challenge, or just avoid the game. The game does not hold your hand after level 3. I would rather that than for it to be too simple though. Just remember, if you do get stuck on a puzzle, only use the internet to look up the solution as a last resort.
The Atari Flashback Classics collection is, hands down, the most ambitious collection of games I’ve ever seen. It consists of a library so vast with different styles that anyone can go into it and find a game they enjoy. It may be missing one of the biggest developers and game which was ever made (Namco/Pacman), but the weight of the legacy of the other games makes this collection a must-have for retro game lovers!
Dragon’s Lair Trilogy is an excellent collection of some the very best arcade games ever made. Sure, the games are a bit of a challenge. You may even get overwhelmed with frustration and walk away from them! However, they are so addictive and charming that you’ll persevere and get past the part you were struggling with and before too long, conquer the adventure. The love put into the projects is just as obvious as it was 36 years ago! Having the chance to replay these classic arcade games was a great blast to the past. Build a Bridge! is a simple take on the complex simulation of crafting imaginative bridges. There isn’t really any bells or whistles that make it stand out against other Indie titles in the Nintendo e-Shop though. In answer to whether you should pick up the Switch version or play the FREEmium version on mobiles, I’d side with the switch as it still works out cheaper if you add up the cost of the content you receive. However, those who will get the most out of this game are the people who like taking control of building creative and elaborate structures.
Capcom has delivered not only an amazing remake of Resident Evil 2, its an even scarier game than the original. The Visuals look absolutely stunning on all platforms, the audio amplifies the tension and the atmosphere, and the overall recreation of the classic game fills you with both awe and dread as you experience the same, yet different, game we all love. Newcomers to the game will love trying to solve all of the puzzles as they strive to stay alive, whereas veterans of the franchise will have a reason to jump back in and experience it all over again. This is clearly one of the best remakes we’ve seen on current gen hardware and raises the bar for likewise titles moving forward; It’s a worthy contender for Game of the Year – not bad for a 20-year-old game which was released in January! Bravo Capcom, Bravo.
