Let me put it to you this way. I actually stopped playing The Amazing Spider-Man 2 to do some other work. I'd play a mission, decide I couldn't take any more and go do something else instead, just to get away from it. Quite frankly, that's the opposite of what a game should be.
Surgeon Simulator: Anniversary Edition is a one trick pony, and once you've played through the first operation enough times to complete it you'll have stopped laughing. The controls err on frustrating far too often, and while deliberately clumsy, the entire system is too inconsistent to provide much fun.
A mediocre eight-year-old game judged by modern standards.
For all the positives, a game you want to uninstall every time you die just isn't good, and for that reason Galak-Z isn't worth your time.
Great story can't cover for poor gameplay.
A valiant effort, but far better sims exist.
Kickbeat is a fairly generic rhythm-action title, hampered by loose core gameplay – something that really needed to be solid when there is so little in the way of content. It's hard to recommend it when there are better examples of the genre out there.
A high price point and lack of players means Wild Run won't tempt you back.
F1 2015 mimics the 2015 season in every aspect, unfortunately that includes the bad ones, too.
A perfectly serviceable racer with great looks, plenty of customisation options, and passable driving, but it's a real shame that latest reboot of this franchise had the hallmarks of the greats in the series' past and could have been truly special.
Like opening up a bag of Haribo to find a lone Murray mint.
An involving racer that struggles to offer a solid challenge.
This would be forgivable if the story was engaging enough to drive things, but it tends to devolve into a slog from one puzzle to the next, with the occasional trial in-between to brighten it up. It’s worth a go if you’re a fan of either series, and you won’t be disappointed by the story – just be prepared to invest plenty of time to see it through.
A cutesy card-based dungeon crawler that runs out of new ideas before too long, but one worth checking out, nonetheless.
Worms: Battlegrounds is a solid game. I've had great fun playing it with my friends, and it's definitely one I'll return to after reviewing, which doesn't always happen. But it is a Worms game, which means that nothing much is new, and nothing in particular is worth shouting about. If you don't like the series this won't convert you, but if you do, well, you already know what you're getting.
Futuridium EP Deluxe is a cracking little arcade game, best for playing a set of levels when you have a moment rather than a long gaming session, and while later levels can be a bit frustrating, playing it in small bites makes it much more enjoyable.
Deep but confusing strategy layered over classic Dynasty Warriors.
WRC 5 really is the most fun I've had with a racer this year, giving you a phenomenal handling model, sticking you on a course and largely leaving you to attack it. What more could you want?
DriveClub is a racer that entertains despite its shortcomings, but suffers from an identity crisis
Once you learn to deal with it’s idiosyncrasies, F1 2016 is a bloody fun racer. When it all gels it feels fantastic (especially when played with a wheel), it’s just a shame that there’s the occasional car crash along the way.
