While I have the odd niggle with Charterstone: Digital Edition the core gameplay loop is enjoyable for the most part. As the developers are releasing updates to the game, I hope they sort out the way the tutorial is presented to the player and of course fix the non intuitive controls. I can see Charterstone: Digital Edition would be an entertaining game to play with a few friends.
I’m sure like myself you have either see a TV adaptation of the Agatha Christie-ABC Murders or one of the many film adaptation of the novel. Or you could have read the novel like I have. While the game does not follow the novel to the letter, it does follow the events closely, to the point where those familiar with the source material will not find many surprises here. Agatha Christie-ABC Murders makes for lighthearted detective fare, where you can give your little grey cells a bit of a workout!
Ghost of a Tale has charming characters, lore, and brilliant storytelling. All together they provide an immersive world for the player to get lost in. While it does have a few little hiccups with the graphics, it is not enough to spoil the gameplay. Ghost of a Tale is a lovely game with a meaningful story. With a great cast of characters, a game all enthusiasts of adventure, role-playing genres should try. I challenge you to not fall in love with Tilo. It is a challenge I would say is impossible as Tilo is so cute!!
You can see the love the developers have put into the game while your playing it. Yes, some areas do become repetitive as most games do at some stage. However, Crown Trick has all the right elements to make it a fantastic dungeon crawler. A good indicator for me of how much I like or love a game when I’m writing a review is that by the time I get to the conclusion to have my last say, I’m busting to finish it off so I can go and play. And that is how I feel about Crown Trick, it has ticked all the right dungeon crawler boxes for me! It’s a wonderful game, with its turn-based combat, where each move is full of possibilities and each battle is a challenge.
This is a standard hidden object game with all the usual toys you expect for the genre. While there is nothing new brought to the genre in the game, nevertheless fans of the series will probably enjoy this game. Whilst The Secret Order: Return to the Buried Kingdom has way more mini-games and puzzles than there are hidden object scenes, I did enjoy my short time (approx 3/4 hours) with the game even if I didn’t feel challenged.
While you won’t find anything new or overly surprising in The Survivalist, however, it does offer an entertaining time and a good take on the survival genre. Having the monkey’s do your bidding is a very fun part of the game. The crafting system is well-made and doesn’t feel like it was added onto the experience as an afterthought. Having a band of monkeys armed to the teeth to watch your back, I mean who wouldn’t want that!
Puddle Knights is one of those puzzle games that you can breeze through the first few stages of easily enough. Then you arrive at the more challenging puzzles, any one of those you can stare at a for twenty minutes without progress. Until that light bulb in your brain goes ping and inspiration strikes and you can solve it. Puddle Knights has all the right components that make it a brilliant, head-scratching, brain-melting, entertaining puzzle game. One I can recommend to gamers who enjoy this style of puzzle games as much as I do.
Overall Detective Case and Clown Bot in: Murder in The Hotel Lisbon is passable as a point and click game. The risqué humour that can range from silly to controversial would be a matter of choice on the players part, provided they find it acceptable in this day and age! As for myself, you may have gathered by now I did not like the humour in the game. So my score for Detective Case and Clown Bot in: Murder in The Hotel Lisbon is..I’m Not Sure
Ys Origin is an enjoyable romp through the Devils Tower. For fans of the series, they are sure to enjoy Ys Origin which only adds to an already rich mythology. Overall, I was very pleasantly surprised by this game, Ys Origin on the Nintendo Switch is a great action RPG with old school hack and slash elements, that will appeal to anyone looking for a decent gaming experience for less than Twenty quid on the eShop!
Mattis Folkestad, the developer behind Embracelet, has written a unique adventure story, with a gentle difficulty level. It’s a heartwarming story about setting out on your own and taking your first long journey from home. With themes of love, loss, friendship and family. Embracelet is a game where its story shines throughout the gameplay and pushes you with Jesper and his friends to discover the island of Slepp.
I had fun with Flying Soldiers, it’s an entertaining puzzle game with hints of strategy in selecting where to place the objects to help the budgies reach the end of the run. It’s not a long game but it is a pleasant enough to get a few hours of fun out of in-between something more serious and little more challenging.
Her Majesty’s Ship feels like a direct port from PC with little or no conversion work carried out on it for its release on the Nintendo Switch. Playing the game for this review proved to be a frustrating experience, to say the least. Her Majesty’s Ship, in my opinion, could be a decent game if the control and menu problem where fixed to make it a less frustrating experience. As it is at the moment I can only say my score is….
As Death and Taxes is quite a short game its definitely worth your while to play through the game a few times to make the most of it and its different endings. I found the game to be enjoyable and funny. On my second play through I made different choices and got a completely different ending. While playing as the Grim Repear and dealing out death to unsuspecting humans may not be to everyones taste, Death and Taxes is a sarcastic, humorous take on a mundane office job with a twist!
Deleveled offers addictive and challenging gameplay throughout the 120 levels in the game. It is a simple concept of momentum in action, but don’t let that fool you. As Deleveled certainly delivers lots of puzzling enjoyment and hours of bouncing fun.
Kingdom Rush Origins keeps the familiar and fun game mechanics from the first two installments in the series. And with so many heroes to choose from with different skill sets to try out and challenge of the different modes, there is plenty to keep you busy. I think that Origins feels more balanced than the others in the series and it’s also the best one. Kingdom Rush is quite possibly the most iconic Tower Defense game out there in the market. If you’re a fan of the series like I am there isn’t any reason why you wouldn’t love this edition to Kingdom Rush, just like I do.
Fantasy Tower Defense is a simplistic take on the standard Tower Defense games. There are 20 levels to defend your way through, which will keep you busy for a while if you can work out the strategy to make it to the end without any help from the game. I do think you could find a much better TD game on the eShop to purchase and spend time with as there isn’t much to Fantasy Tower Defense or any replayability in it.
While I have a couple of niggles as I stated above with Here Be Dragons, I do like what the game developers are trying to do. Though I think the game could do with some sort of sandbox mode, where you could tinker around and build up your ship’s skills. When you get deeper into Here Be Dragons, it does offer an enjoyable slice of strategy, and fans of the board-game genre would probably find Here Be Dragons to be entertaining.
It was a pleasure to spend time with The Last Campfire: a world filled with charm and wonder. The details of the world, and the characters in it, play like an interactive storybook. Poignant and charming, The Last Campfire is an adventure puzzle game that developers Hello Games should be very proud of. It deserves a spot on everyone’s Nintendo Switch.
Spiritfarer is a positive look at death as all the characters make peace with both their life and death in their own time The characters are charming, all have depth with stories to tell. While some mini-games may feel tedious the more you do them, there are plenty of other tasks in the game to balance this out. Playing Spiritfarer at this particular time in the mad and crazy world we live in is something everyone should do. As well as being entertaining and enjoyable to play Spiritfarer is hopeful, comforting, and positive and certainly big on delivering the ”feels”!
The game is built to the POWGI standard, very plain and the focus, as it should be, is the puzzle in question. The rules are laid out clearly at the beginning and are easy to get back to if you’re not familiar with this type of puzzle or have left the game for a while and need a reminder. Alphaset by POWGI does what it’s good at effectively, a simple enjoyable word puzzle. If word puzzles are your go-to genre, I recommend Alphaet by POWGI has a spot on your Nintendo Switch.
