Critic Reviews for Charterstone: Digital Edition

Equal parts complex and chill, Charterstone: Digital Edition only lacks by being a little light on storytelling.

Heck, playing this locally with newcomers is a challenge unless you have someone on hand to explain the game in detail. Charterstone appears to be a fun game that I someday look forward to playing in physical board game form. Maybe then, I'll be able to revisit this digital incarnation with friends and enjoy it far more.

While I have the odd niggle with Charterstone: Digital Edition the core gameplay loop is enjoyable for the most part. As the developers are releasing updates to the game, I hope they sort out the way the tutorial is presented to the player and of course fix the non intuitive controls. I can see Charterstone: Digital Edition would be an entertaining game to play with a few friends.

Charterstone: Digital Edition is a well-executed adaptation of a classic, high-quality board game, though it lacks any real innovation. The developers aimed to create a nearly 1:1 digital version, and it’s worth noting that they succeeded in most cases. Saving games, in particular, is a nice feature. The advantage is that you don’t have to carry that heavy box around with you—everything is right there on your device. Unfortunately, it can’t replace real human interaction, but it’s still a solid game that will keep you entertained for hours.
