Nintendo seems to be going down a fitness route at the moment. With Ring Fit Adventure, the original Fitness Boxing and that free Jump Rope game, the Nintendo Switch seems to be the best choice for those looking to get fit. With Ring Fit Adventure currently the fitness game to beat, Nintendo has added to this pedigree with Fitness Boxing 2: Rhythm & Exercise.
Nova-Box is back with another of their visual novels to be released for the Nintendo Switch. Visual novels aren’t my cup of tea and it’s not been until recently that I’ve delved into the genre. I previously reviewed Along The Edge and was blown away by both its story and art. With Seers Isle I started with an open mind. But, seeing that it is also developed by Nova-Box I had sudden high expectations.
Fatal Fury: First Contact is the latest Neo Geo Pocket Colour title to be ported onto the Nintendo Switch. The pocket fighter originally debuted way back in 1999 and was released onto the SNK produced console – the Neo Geo Pocket Colour.
Controversy isn’t a new concept when it comes to video games. It’s been something that’s been around for a few years now. Games such as Grand Theft Auto, Mass Effect 3, Manhunt, and more recently Cyberpunk 2077. it’s fair to say that controversial video games are here to stay. The latest game to receive the “let’s create some controversy” is Sense – A Cyberpunk Ghost Story.
Much like it’s namesake – Commandos 2: HD Remaster is the remaster no one suspected. Like a Commando, it just appeared out of nowhere, unexpected, unannounced but unnecessary? This HD Remaster is based on Commandos 2: Men of Courage which is a 2001 strategy game created by the now-defunct Pyro Studios and published by Eidos Interactive. Commandos 2: Men of Courage was a punishing strategy game that saw you take control of a team of Commandos during World War 2. At the time it featured some incredibly detailed settings and some fantastic sandbox-style maps from war-torn towns to sprawling Kriegsmarine bases, to even the dense jungles of Japan.
Hitman 3 is the latest game in the long-running Hitman series. Hitman 3 concludes the “World of Assassination” story that started way back in 2016 with the soft-reboot/sequel, Hitman. This time around, 47 is tasked with ending the threat of Providence once and for all.
Turrican, a game synonymous with the console boom of the ’90s is back. The Turrican Flashback Collection brings – Turrican, Turrican 2: The Final Fight, Mega Turrican, and Super Turrican together in one complete collection.
Curse of the Dead Gods is a skill-based roguelike set inside a cruel, dark temple with a seemingly infinite amount of endless rooms and corridors. Death is always just one step behind, and that’s if the constant threat of corruption doesn’t get to you first!
I’m a sucker for Roguelike games. The often simple yet challenging gameplay often leads to many moments of joy to then sheer frustration as you get “schooled” by a particularly nasty boss for the 100’th time. The benefits of Roguelikes is that no matter how many times you die. you grow a little stronger in both character and player as you unlock stats and learn the movements of your foes. Rogue Heroes: Ruins of Tasos takes this formula and sprinkles a world builder on the top. Not only is progress measured by how powerful your hero is, it’s also based on how big your village is.
The ‘Soulslike’ genre has taken off over the last few years. Ever since Dark Souls brought the notion of challenging and unforgiving gameplay to the masses, more and more titles are attempting to recreate the formula. Hellpoint is the latest to attempt to break into the Soulslike genre. Whilst it’s Xbox One, PC and PlayStation 4 release was in 2020 (check out our review of Hellpoint on the Xbox One), it’s only recently made it’s way to the Nintendo Switch. Developed by Cradle Games, Hellpoint takes the Soulslike genre into the dark depths of space, but can it hear us scream?
Mercenaries Blaze: Dawn of the Twin Dragons is the fifth instalment of the Mercenaries series that’s been released onto the Nintendo Switch. It’s a turn-based strategy RPG that takes place on an isometric grid. Whilst this doesn’t sound particularly unique, what sets Mercenaries Blaze apart from its competitors is a vast story and fairly interesting characters.
Apex Legends is a first-person shooter battle royale that’s set within the same universe as Respawn Entertainment’s Titanfall franchise. The main objective of Apex Legends is to lead your team to victory in the Apex Games and is achieved by being the last team to survive. With plenty of heroes to choose from and a vast array of seasonal lore to discover, Apex Legends has added a new lease of life to the battle royale genre.
As the title suggests, The Game of Life 2 is the video game adaptation of the Hasbro board game – The Game of Life. Aside from a few changes (more on that below) the game is exactly the same as its real-world counterpart.
All Walls Must Fall is an isometric tactics game that’s set in an alt-future Berlin. As a time-travelling secret agent, it’s up to you to travel through time to stop a rogue element deploying a nuclear device that destroys Berlin in the future. With only a single night to avert the attack, you’d best get those dancing shoes on…
Rain on Your Parade is the weather-based equivalent of Untitled Goose Game. You play as a mischievous cloud – aptly named “Cloudy” – whose goal is to annoy anyone and everyone who happens to be standing under them. If you think raining on people is a little dull, when you add in thunder, snow, and copious amounts of acid, petrol, fire, and even a little “Tactical Espionage Action” then Rain on Your Parade brings a whole new meaning to “cloud-based gaming”.
Star Wars: Republic Commando has finally made its modern console release. The Star Wars-themed squad-based FPS was originally released back in 2005 for the Xbox and PC. Star Wars: Republic Commando follows a clone spec-ops team through a story set within the Star Wars Legends expanded universe. Afterpulse is a third-person multiplayer shooter that made its debut on mobile devices. As a primarily free-2-play title, Afterpulse features your typical team deathmatch style gameplay with the added extra of buying extra cosmetics and weapons with your hard-earned cash. Alphadia Genesis 2 continues KEMCO’s trend of re-releasing their mobile catalogue onto home consoles. Last time I reviewed Asdivine Cross on Nintendo Switch, which is another KEMCO title.
