Liked-a-lot - The Packages
Sep 7, 2022

All told, this is a solid puzzle game with a unique concept. The tutorials are well-made and well-interspersed through the game to keep from overwhelming you. The only real negative point I have for this title is that it isn’t my type of game. But if you know anyone who loves a challenging puzzle game, The Packages is a good bet for a gift.

I can see the value in this as an educational tool, but it’s not entertaining to play. Not to mention that it’s easy to tank your own business. It’s incredibly detailed, but the details are laid out in a way that is just boring. For $30 USD, I wouldn’t recommend this game to almost anyone.

Loved - Dorfromantik
Sep 29, 2022

I love this game so much. I know that it’s challenging and has a couple of problems, but I can’t sing the praises of Dorfromantik enough. Additionally, I would recommend this game to almost anyone, and I am happy that they created a wonderful port for the Nintendo Switch

I wanted to love this game. It filled me with the same feeling as a big warm hug or a cozy blanket. The art is amazing, the characters are wonderful, and the character creation is top-notch. But the bugs really just kind of ruined the whole experience for me. I will keep trying it out as new updates come out in hopes of actually being able to finish this title someday.

Disliked - Model City
Oct 12, 2022

I get where the developers of Model City were going with this game. It has a lot of potentials to be fun, but a lot of changes will have to happen first, in my opinion. Needless to say that I was super disappointed with this game. I really hope the developers rethink Model City and rerelease it; I know that with its pretty graphics and interesting puzzle setup they could do a lot more. I know I could have figured out the math behind this puzzle game had I spent a lot more time with it, but I really, really didn’t want to. There was nothing to pull me in and keep me spending time with Model City.

I love this game. It’s deeply British in a very funny way. It makes fun of Great British Baking Show. It has a joke about how the local fair successfully “installed the rain” just over its location and nowhere else. There are weird puzzles with fun locations. Everything I love about Sierra games is in here, and the devs didn’t include all the stuff people don’t like about them. Overall, I can’t say too much more without spoiling the whole thing, but if you love point-and-click, Lucy Dreaming is a game you cannot miss.

The whole reason that I never found out if you can do any of these things is that this game is kind of hard to play. It was not very fun while I was fumbling with the controls for the first bit, then it was fun for a while, and then it got boring. I didn’t get to do anything but deliver packages, throw myself at impossible speeds across the world, and then fill my house with furniture. Once my house was full, I didn’t have anything to do with my money and I was delivering packages for no reason. I liked the concept of the game, I just wish there was a little more to hold my interest. This game has a lot going for it, but I’m not sure if this game is enough to hold anyone’s attention for more than a few hours.

Liked-a-lot - A Little to the Left
Nov 7, 2022

A Little To The Left is a wonderful game. It’s unique, it’s fun, it’s frustrating, it’s polished, and I’ve never seen anything like it before. In spite of the handful of annoyances, it was so worth playing. I am so glad that there will be Daily challenges in this game because I would sorely miss it if it was all over with. Overall, a wonderful title.

Liked-a-lot - Once Again
Nov 10, 2022

I really liked this visual novel; it was certainly unique. I’m not usually a big fan of these kinds of games, but there was something magical about this one. The theme is great, the story of Once Again is heartbreakingly gorgeous, the music is good, and the game does a great job of having unique art for each panel. I find that most visual novels don’t do that; there is always a lot of repeated artwork that can get dull after a while. This is a fairly inexpensive game, so if you love moving visuals novels, Once Again is a great game for you.

I love Lost Amulets: Four Guardians a lot. It has a couple of little things that bug me. But overall, they were so small that they didn’t ruin the enjoyment of this title. If you love hidden object puzzles, matching puzzles, and others, you will almost be guaranteed to love this game. For only $5, it’s hard to pass up such a wonderful, polished puzzle game to add to your Steam library.

Overall, Harmony’s Odyssey is adorable and fun. There are tons of options; players can choose their difficulty, there is an arcade mode and more. But unfortunately, it’s a little bit difficult to play. There is a lot of accessibility and playability lost to maintain the look that the developers were going for. Overall, Harmony’s Odyssey is super fun, adorable, polished, and a quality game with beautiful music, but it could use a little help in the usability department

Liked - Papetura
Dec 2, 2022

Making a monochromatic minimalist puzzle game isn’t easy. It’s not something I would recommend most people try, and Papetura is a good example of why. I love so much about this game that I wanted to love it. I wanted to have fun inside this amazing world with gorgeous music and strange little puzzles, but I just can’t. If only all the puzzles were a little more intuitive. If only some switches didn’t change things in other rooms, if only you didn’t have to backtrack through the world at a snail’s pace all the time, Papetura could have been a contender for my personal GOTY. It’s fun, it’s frustrating, it’s beautiful, but it’s just a little bit off-kilter.

Disliked - Under The Moon
Dec 6, 2022

I don’t like this game. Under The Moon is in need of some honest playtesters that are looking to improve the game’s appeal. I think it could be amazing with some simple editing: Edit the riddles for grammar. Put a little more effort into the riddles that are just descriptions of objects. Make the roads much, much shorter. Worry less about ray tracing and worry more about making what is there interact well with the world.

Liked - Aka
Dec 13, 2022

Aka is cute, smart, clever, and sad. It’s beautiful and a kid-friendly introduction to loss. Players can choose their own adventure here; there is no pressure to get anything done in this game. You can do as you like and take as much time doing those things as you want. That being said, it has its issues. I think this game just needs a little more love, and it could be a perfect relaxing game for the whole family.

Lil Gator Game, along with the host of other cozy indie games I’ve played and loved, are unique and special experiences that I’m glad I got to have. It’s so wonderful that finally gamers who don’t like a lot of the elements of AAA games can have a little piece of relaxing wonderful like Lil Gator Game and similar. I am so happy that indie games are much more able to reach audiences because my inner child was absolutely enthralled. While it’s a shame something so wonderful as this couldn’t have existed 20 years ago, indie developers are certainly making up for it now by releasing amazing, beautiful, wholesome, adorable, and nearly perfect games like this as passion projects. There is a lot of love in Lil Gator Game, and I can’t wait to see what this dev has in store for us next.

Cats and Sokoban – Mimi’s Scratcher is a great game. Depending on what it costs, I could recommend this game to anyone who loves little games like this. Even if you’ve never played a Sokoban-like game, this is a great title to choose for your first one.

Liked-a-lot - Fit Puzzle Blocks
Dec 24, 2022

I love free games, free puzzle games that are fun. I love little paid addons for free puzzle games so you can support the dev if you love the game. In addition, I like accessible games that can be customized to be more user-friendly, and I love games that allow me to use a controller. While block puzzles may not be my puzzle of choice, I can see a well-made block puzzle game when I see it. And while playing Fit Puzzle Blocks, I definitely saw one.

I love Hidden Cats in London for the cats and the art, but it has a lot of problems. For less than $2 USD, it’s fine. But I would pay a little more for a game that the developers actually play-tested and perfected.

Overall, Jewel Match Winter Wonderland 2 Collector’s Edition has a lot going for it. The match-3 portions of the game are great; while I didn’t like a lot of the mini-games, these are not forced on you, so you can play as many or as few as you would like. It’s a great game that’s easy to play with no bugs that I found. And there is a massive amount of content. If you like match-3 and Christmas, Jewel Match Winter Wonderland 2 Collector’s Edition is a no-brainer.

Liked - Sail Forth
Jan 16, 2023

Sail Forth is not for me. But I think it is a great game for what it is trying to do. Overall, the game is cute, humorous in a child-friendly way, and filled with open-world sailing adventure. It’s Windbound without all the survival and debarking from the boat stuff that I loved about Windbound, just leaving the kind of boring sail mixed with some awkward combat. But it has loads of auto options and tons of accessibility options for players to make Sail Forth their own, and that’s something I love a lot. However, I think that someone who is a fan of this sort of sailing game would love it much more than I ever could
