It stands out with its meticulously crafted world, excellent voice acting and soundtrack, and expansive exploration that strengthens the sense of immersion. However, it is held back by a weak combat system and a narrative drive that does not become clearly apparent during the early stages of the game.

Dune: Awakening is an ambitious game, and ambition can sometimes be its greatest strength and its biggest weakness. There is an enormous amount to see and do across Arrakis, and Funcom has successfully turned one of science fiction’s most recognisable worlds into a survival playground that feels dangerous, atmospheric and genuinely worth exploring. The survival mechanics work because the environment itself is such an important part of the experience, while crafting, building, combat and character progression give you plenty of reasons to keep pushing further into the desert. The new single-player mode is perhaps the most important addition for Xbox players. It makes the entire experience considerably more accessible without stripping away what makes Dune: Awakening special. You can play alone, take your time and create your own adventure, or you can embrace the social side of the game and experience Arrakis alongside others. There are still frustrations. The menus aren’t always as controller-friendly as I’d like, the game can occasionally suffer from technical hiccups and the sheer number of systems can feel overwhelming. Some of the survival mechanics can also be brutally unforgiving, particularly when you’re still learning how everything works. But when Dune: Awakening gets it right, it gets it very right. There is something wonderfully immersive about standing alone in the middle of the desert, looking towards a distant objective while checking your water supply and wondering whether you can make it there and back. Then you hear the ground rumble. Suddenly, that objective doesn’t seem quite so important. Dune: Awakening is a huge, ambitious and atmospheric survival RPG that makes Arrakis feel like a character in its own right. It isn’t perfect, but for anyone willing to embrace its systems and give themselves time to learn the ways of the desert, there is an enormous adventure waiting beneath the sand.
The Dune: Awakening console launch is exciting. The console experience largely matches what players have on PC, but its single-player mode also opens the door to more players who want to play alone without sacrificing quality for them or the game’s existing multiplayer base.
Dune: Awakening finally lets Arrakis itself be the challenge, and that's where the game is strongest.

As I finally wrap this review, I don't have a straight forward conclusion for you. Dune Awakening is a very good game. It might not be as deep as others, and it has plenty of bugs and issues, but as a Dune fan there is a ton here to enjoy.
Dune: Awakening delivers a unique survival MMO that captures the essence of the Dune universe while offering solid crafting, PvP, and social systems. Whether you want to build a desert empire, explore lore-rich ruins, or just glide over sand dunes with friends, there’s something here for every type of player. It still needs polish and more structured endgame content, but with active development and a committed community, the future looks bright. If you're a Dune fan or survival sandbox enthusiast, this one’s a must-play.
Dune Awakening has grabbed me more than any multiplayer experience in recent memory, comparable only to when Final Fantasy XIV Shadowbringers came out that I can recall. I’ve made myself one with the sand, I’ve made friends, I’ve made enemies and I’ve enjoyed every harsh survival loss along the way despite my initial angry reaction. Dune Awakening is the most meticulously and lovingly crafted recreation of Frank Herbert’s iconic world to date, and it manages to be a genre defining gameplay experience as well, with one of the coolest endgames I’ve seen in the genre. It has some bugs and some rough edges owing to its dedication to the franchise, but this is one special game that everyone should play.
A love letter to the world of Frank Herbert, Dune: Awakening has some of the most immersive survival gameplay in recent years, as well as an intriguing entry in the Dune lore. However, the game expects a lot from the player and has a very slow grind to get to the best parts of the game. As it stands, Dune: Awakening is a strong foundation for Funcom to build off of, and I can't wait to see where the game goes next.

A well-presented story and atmosphere that nails the vibes of Dune, but janky combat and a massive tonal shift in the endgame hurt this experience a little.
Dune: Awakening is a story of eternal change. In a year, it won't be the same game it is today. At the present, it has plenty of untapped potential and great ideas, none of which work together. One day, that will change, but we can't review potential. In a way, such contradictions are only fitting for this franchise, even if it's a frustrating experience to actually play.
