There may not be enough here to get people to jump into the origins of the Tekken franchise, but it has to be said that there is still something satisfying about a fighting game that is devoid of flashy effects, super meters and ridiculous combos that require intense thumb movements and memorisation to pull off. Just know that the content most will be used to seeing in the PS1 version isn’t present here.

If you’ve only played the more recent Tekken games and have never taken a look at the original, the Arcade Archives 2 version is truly the perfect way to rediscover the series’ roots, especially considering its relatively affordable price. Even those who aren’t particularly fond of fighting games will probably have heard of the Iron Fist Tournament at least once, and this is the perfect opportunity to see where it all began.

Unfortunately, Tekken 1 is a fighting game that hasn't aged very well, and even with the Arcade Archives 2 additions, it doesn't quite convince me enough to move it out of the “yellow” category. Still, I'd probably recommend it over the PS1 version, unless you absolutely can't do without the bonus characters.
