Rita succeeds in blending word puzzles with a difficulty that doesn’t scare people off. You can explore the world and enjoy a nice story without tearing your hair out. Some puzzles may stump you because the answer wasn’t what you were thinking, and finding every collectible can be hard. Stay for the story and appreciate the occasional challenge to find the appeal in this cute game about a family of cute chicks.
A cozy puzzler with a hint of platforming, Rita’s charming crossword journey across generations is well worth solving.
Rita is a very clever, engaging blend of word puzzle and adventure, and if you enjoy a crossword puzzle, it's well worth your time. The platforming elements are a little scrappy, but it's not enough to ruin this unique experience.
Back in November last year, I had the pleasure of reviewing Rita’s demo. As I said back then, I didn’t have any expectations when I started Rita, but it’s safe to say that afterwards, I was very excited for the final release of the game. I am happy to report that Rita is exactly what I was hoping for. If you liked A Short Hike and Haven Park, and you like word-based puzzles, I think you will also enjoy Rita.
It’s neither a great 3D platformer nor a great word game. But, at the very least, it’s good enough at both halves of that equation that I have no problem saying that I enjoyed it.
