Critic Reviews for Shard Squad
It may lack the depth or variety of some of the bests out there, but Shard Squad is a fairly unique take on the crowded bullet heaven genre. Having to evolve and create synergies between creatures, and even being able to combine said abilities in co-op, makes for an addictive and fun experience, with more than enough content to enjoy over plenty of hours. Sure it’s a bit repetitive and grindy, but I’ve also found it to be an excellent timewaster and a perfectly enjoyable survivors-like if you, like me, can’t get enough of this formula.
Shard Squad stands out for its wealth of content, offering over 20 creatures to unlock, 10 stages with varied difficulty, permanent upgrades, relics, and story content that provide strong replayability and a sense of progression. This polished Brazilian game features charming pixel art, smooth animations, and stable performance on Nintendo Switch, while its squad system lets players experiment with different characters without excessive repetition. However, the gameplay can eventually feel repetitive, as later stages offer little mechanical variety, though a harder mode is available from the start for experienced players.
