Veritas Tales: Witch of the Dark Castle is a good game. It has a fun narrative that fits its genre perfectly, alongside simple yet surprisingly immersive gameplay systems. While the visual quality is a bit imbalanced in places, the overall design remains rather compelling. As a solid first entry, it lays a strong foundation for a future series and is a great find for fans of narrative-focused games. For fans of story driven experiences, this is quite a find!
As an avid fan of the written word, it was an enjoyable experience for me, but it does require a different mindset from the usual JRPG grind.
A highly recommended game for anyone who enjoys swashbuckling adventures set in a high-fantasy world. There’s plenty to read and lots of choices to make; the dice won’t always be in your favor, and you’ll often lose battles, but there’s no need to worry. As in any good gamebook, you can simply “rewind time” a little to return to an earlier point in the adventure and make a different decision.
