While there’s nothing wrong with oddball simplicity and the appeal of just seeing what can happen next, the familiarity of games like this is giving them waning appeal
Berry Bury Berry is one of the most unique horror games I’ve ever had the chance to play. Someone decided to combine two seemingly completely mismatched genres, and did it really well. The incremental game elements work wonderfully, and the gameplay itself is addictive, effectively trapping us in the “just one more round” syndrome. Constantly filling the hole, expanding our capabilities, all within a unique retro aesthetic, come together to form a surprisingly successful whole. Even the story, despite its banality and predictability, manages to pique your curiosity enough that you’ll want to see it through to the very end.
