Critic Reviews for Fire And Ashes
Fire and Ashes is a fairly miserable experience, even despite the constant bombardment of technical issues. Animations are painfully bad, with enemy AI that only knows to move toward you, regardless if they are even facing you. With a story that doesn't appear until the game's final moments, and the developer's use of Generative AI, Fire and Ashes is an experience I'll forget by the time this is published.
Fire and Ashes has an original voice-acting system, but on the PS5 it’s plagued by bugs, clunky combat and a short playtime. The advice is to wait for a patch; my wife is waiting for some peace and quiet.

FIRE AND ASHES is a game that squanders much of its potential. The voice mechanic is eye-catching and could offer a different approach to horror, but its inconsistent execution, along with unsatisfying combat, superficial exploration, and uninspired puzzles, means the experience rarely manages to stand out in a positive way.

Fire and Ashes is a horror adventure with some interesting ideas, from its exploration and dark atmosphere to the use of the microphone as a key element of survival. However, a fragmented narrative, unconvincing AI, and several technical issues hold the experience back.

I haven't found *Fire and Ashes* to be a game I can easily recommend, especially given its high price (considering what it offers) on PS5. The reason I'm giving it a low score isn't its quality; it's its inconsistent performance, its short playtime, and its odd combat mechanics. And the only reason it doesn't get an even lower score is because I did find the story and setting to be well-crafted and interesting.

FIRE AND ASHES is a horror game that wants to be different: using the voice as both weapon and vulnerability is a rare idea, potentially capable of creating a physical and almost intimate bond between player and game. Unfortunately, the execution is not up to the intuition. ASDstudio and Antelus Games' title offers atmosphere, a few disturbing images and an interesting sound concept, but entrusts it to unrefined gameplay, a story that is slow to reveal itself and a technical side too fragile to support the experience. There will surely need to be a major polishing effort: more believable AI, more responsive combat, a cleaner interface and a narrative better integrated into the scenes. As it stands, FIRE AND ASHES is very hard to recommend: it may intrigue the curious about the genre and fans of sound experiments, but it will not convince those looking for a solid, engaging and technically reliable horror game.

FIRE AND ASHES is a decent little horror game that manages to deliver some genuinely creepy moments thanks to unsettling environments, atmospheric sound design and an interesting microphone mechanic. I enjoyed exploring the hospital and uncovering Henry’s story, but the sluggish controls, repetitive sounds and short two-hour runtime definitely held the game back.
