Critic Reviews for Mystery Castle
Despite its colourful exterior and nice design, Mystery Castle suffers from a few too many repetitive levels to really excel.
Annoying design decisions aside, Mystery Castle provides several hours worth of challenging and cleverly designed brainteasers for puzzle fiends to enjoy.
Mystery Castle as some clever ideas and gets pretty good later on.
The story is told through comic strip cut scenes which feel out of place for this world, and very half-assed
The premise and complexity of the puzzles, mixed with the cheery art style, point to an interesting puzzle experience but you may find that Mystery Castle a bit of an unrewarding drudge if you aren't really into the types of puzzles on offer. It's challenging at points and allows enough flexibility for you to skip stages that prove too perplexing which makes it accessible for most, but there's such a flatness to the level completion that there's no real rush of excitement when you solve a particularly difficult puzzle. The vast number of levels available also acts as more of a demotivator than a blessing and it could be argued that just sometimes, less is more. There's certainly not much wrong with Mystery Castle, but it's not doing anything to make it stand out from the crowd either.
Overall, Mystery Castle an OK puzzler and if you're really into puzzle games, and I mean really into them, I think you'd get a kick out of it as it will keep you busy for a decent amount of time. If you've only got anything less than an invested interest in puzzlers I can't see you enjoying it much.
This is a fantastic puzzle game. A brilliant old school feeling puzzle game. It’s a game I definitely recommend to old bums like myself who grew up with stuff like this, or young bucks looking to see just what good level design can feel like. Hell, if you just want a good puzzle game, this is one to download.
Avoid if you are easily frustrated or bored by slow-paced puzzle solvers. Play if you love a challenge and are looking for 10+ hours of gameplay out of an Xbox Arcade puzzle solver.
