Unearthing Mars (VR) Reviews
Unearthing Mars takes you on a journey from your living room to the red planet in 10 short levels. Push a few buttons, twiddle some knobs and that's about all there is to this title.
Unearthing Mars switches gameplay styles a little too often to be consistent, and none of the ones it switches to really carry the game. It looks nice, but that's about all I have to say for it.
I'd say Unearthing Mars is well worth a couple of hours away from the real world. It's rough around the edges, but there are some great ideas at play and an enjoyable adventure to be had.
I'm not a fan of the teleporting mechanics but found that after a while I got used to it, but the lack of free roam and just specific points to teleport to kinda kills it for me. If you have run out of PS VR experiences and this one is on sale, then you'll probably be able to justify the purchase. But as is, you'd be better off spending your hard-earned money on something else.
Unearthing Mars has potential to be great, but due to its poor technical execution, namely with its visuals and character animations, the experience falls a bit short.
I have to be clear and say that Unearthing Mars isn’t a bad game, but it certainly isn’t the most engaging of titles you’ll find on Playstation VR. The premise is intriguing though and some aspects of the gameplay are fun; it’s just lacking depth in almost all facets of design. It’s a hell of a lot better than ‘The Martian VR’, but those looking to take an epic expedition to Mars might not find what they’re looking for with Unearthing Mars.
