If RiME can nail one thing, it´s his presentation, not only can it convince with a gorgeous artstyle and great textures but also with a beautiful soundtrack. Unfortunately, these are the only good aspects about it, since it failed at everything it tried, being more of a copy-cat than an unique game, clinging so heavily onto the path Team ICO or Journey paved.

What RiME does so well is marry pleasing puzzle platforming to a tender, understated story, and then puts it in a beautifully bleak world filled with mystery. RiME takes the baton from the likes of Journey and Ico, and strides to victory with ease.Tequila Works takes aspects of those classics, and puts a personal touch on the results to create something special.

I initially mentioned my affinity for games like Ico and Journey earlier in order to quickly paint a picture in the reader's mind of what kind of game Rime is. Using comparisons is a simple, if somewhat lazy, way to easily convey a genre or narrative direction of a game, and, much like those games are their own entities, Rime shares as much in common with those titles as it does its own thing.

Rime is a beautiful ode to life, loss and childhood that's as much a pleasure to behold as it is to play. Genteel puzzling and exploration make for great bedfellows in a memorable adventure only let down ever so slightly by some minimal frame rate stutter and a final act that while emotionally resonant provides little challenge or escalation in terms of gameplay. Nearly four years on from its much-hyped debut, Rime proves itself to be have been absolutely worth the wait.

While it's reminiscent of Journey, The Wind Waker and Ico, RiME is so much more than a grab-bag of borrowed ideas. If it weren't for some technical inconsistencies, such as the frame rate and the overly braindead platforming, Rime could be a perfect adventure game. There is so much love and care poured into it that can be seen and heard just by playing it, which makes it an extremely cathartic experience. It is not often that there is a video game that can result in such a positive emotional response and succeed as a legitimate fun video game, and for that, Tequila Works must be commended. Rime is every bit as good as the games that it was inspired by, and in some cases, it supersedes them.

Rime is a game about loss. Rime is a game about grief. Rime is a game that I'm not ashamed to say made me cry. It's a beautiful journey and doesn't seek to simply entertain, but rather to touch the player's soul on a deeply emotional level through engagement and interaction. On the surface Rime is a great looking adventure full of puzzles set in a mysterious and living environment. At its core, Rime is something so much more. By weaving stunning art and engaging gameplay with a brutally emotional narrative, Rime blurs the line between touching the heart and entertaining the player in a way that few games have truly achieved.

If you're looking for a unique, surreal adventure with puzzle-solving and emotional storytelling, then Rime is a game that I can heartily recommend. Although there are some very noticeable frame rate issues, I still found myself immersed in the story being told and engaged by the puzzles. Rime takes cues from some of my favorite titles of recent years, and it also features some very clear influence from the films of Hayao Miyazaki (Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle). RiME is beautiful and emotional game that sometimes seems too constricted. The secrets and collectibles should encourage you to multiple playthroughs, but not in that case. Too simple puzzles and far-fetched psychological concept cause slight frustration. But you feel fuzziness from lengthy game stages, which could be a little shorter and a little more diverse.

Other games of its ilk may punch harder on their message, and the challenge here is all but non-existent. But RiME is a beautiful painting come to life, backed by an exceptional score that will make your journey across this island a joy.

'Rime' doesn't always perfectly combine gameplay with the intended emotional journey, but it succeeds more than it fails.

Rime is not an original title by any means as it hires a lot of its elements from other action titles on the market, and it even fails to add any innovation to those elements. That said, Rime still provides a very relaxing experience on a beautiful island.

RiME is a piece of art, its great change from AAA games. With the beautiful visuals and amazing music that ends a long day with relaxing experience. RiME length is ideal comparing to similar games, if you fell in love with Abzu and Journey you will defiantly enjoy every moment of RiME and you may even find stuff that was inspired by them.

Rime is a good game on its own merit but it's always going to be compared to titles that fans of the genre are probably familiar with.

Playing as a young child, you awaken on a beach at the edge of a gorgeous, Zelda-inspired tropical island surrounded by the remnants of a shipwreck. With no idea how you arrived or how you are going to get back home you set off to explore.

If you’re looking for a game with a strong story, accompanied by stunning visuals and engrossing soundtrack, I would recommend picking it up so long as you’re not looking for a new adventure puzzle experience. If you have played games like The Last Guardian and Journey and just weren’t feeling it, then this would probably be one to avoid as you won’t find anything different.

Rime is a beautiful game with some ugly drawbacks. Still, I recommend checking it out. The world is gorgeous and the adventure worth seeing. I hope the developers make an effort to clean up the frame rate at some point, but I also hope to see a follow-up with some of the issues addressed. There is too much beauty for this game to not return.

RiME still amounts to a meaningful experience, and, despite being stacked against some tough competition, stands proudly as one of the more memorable journeys that you will set out on this year. It is certainly an adventure that you shouldn’t miss, but a poor technical performance on Nintendo Switch may see you washing ashore on other platforms rather than choosing to persevere.

If you're into puzzle-adventure games, RiME may very well be up your alley. However, those looking for a deep story or a fully explained world will be left disappointed. At $30, it's best to wait for a sale unless you are a diehard puzzle gamer.

I was really torn on Rime until I got caught up in its emotional ending, capped off by a fantastic unexpected chapter select reveal. I really saw what Tequila Works was trying to do by the time the curtain closed and it ended up spurring another partial playthrough in the process. Even during its most underwhelming moments Rime got a response out of me, and I'll remember it for years to come.

In the end RiME is a game with lovely massive environments, a very appealing art style, and terrific music that together help build a strong base for an engaging experience. The implementation of the exploration and puzzles I would say is likely to boil down to taste, with some people appreciating the lack of a firm hand guiding you everywhere and others finding some elements needlessly confusing. While I appreciate the story the game set out to tell I’d say that it didn’t quite carry the impact it might have if I’d come to have a stronger connection to the main character, who generally doesn’t have a personality to latch onto. That all then ends up being mired in the game’s technical shortcomings as well. RiME is a game full of ambitions and promise, it just doesn’t quite deliver it all as well on the Switch as it might have. If you’re looking for an ambitious adventure I’d first recommend it on another platform but if you don’t have that option just understand the issues going in and you should still be able to thoroughly enjoy it.

Overall, RiME is ok. It's a rather simple game wrapped in a beautiful package, but that's about the most that I can really say about RiME. A more open world feel would've been a welcome addition, as well as some puzzles that actual involve a tad more thinking rather than "Oh just open this door by finding this thing and shouting at it".

Rime's superficial beauty and interesting mysteries provided enough enjoyment to make me willing to put up with its shallow and familiar elements under the hood. While nothing about Rime is necessarily bad, you can find more interesting versions of nearly every single element of it in other, better games.

If visual quality is what Tequila Works had in mind, three years have been well spent on fabricating a stylish, truly wondrous environment, despite drawing obviously from previous adventure accolades. It'll likely underwhelm if approached explicitly as a puzzler, but Rime's brief tale manages moments of genuine poignancy. The PC port is in dire need of patching, however, if such charm is to survive.

Rime is one of those games that has all the potential to be one of the all-time greats, but falls short at the last hurdle. Choppy framerate and poor visuals in handheld mode hold it back from being a day one recommendation, but it's also an adventure that, one day - despite the flaws - you'll be glad to take.

Rime has the potential to be so much more than it actually is. It's got stunning presentation, an intriguing world, and some neat ideas. However, all of this is overshadowed by the more mundane puzzles and glaring technical issues that come with it. While Rime may well have looked to some of the modern greats for inspiration, it'll struggle to be remembered for half as long.

Rime is a beautiful, beautiful game that manages to feel remarkably empty, even in the face of its earnest attempts. The aesthetic that breathes life into the island of Rime feels a bit too familiar, but it doesn't dampen its vast, ever-photographable horizons. Nonetheless, Rime is a light third-person adventure game with quiet puzzle solving, in a year where we haven't had much of those, which alone makes it a worthwhile respite.
