Defenders of Ekron Critic Reviews
View All (7 total)If you're looking for a standard Japanese shmup, Defenders of Ekron is going to disappoint, but this Chilean gem offers a nuanced level design that allows it to excel, becoming far better than most of its contemporaries through a revolving door of fun, challenging encounters and enough content to leave you more than content.
It's a truism that writing up reviews on mediocre games is the most difficult aspect of games coverage.
Defenders of Ekron is an interesting game that mixes genres with some success. The action sequences are solid and provide players with several variations on a winning shoot ‘em up formula to keep things fresh. There's a considerable challenge in this one that will test your skills in full, and if you give it a try, you'll see that the overall action and exploration segments come together to give us an amusing indie release on PS4.
The visuals in Defenders of Ekron are great, making you stay on target during your quest. I really liked the game's cutscenes as well, not to mention the great writing. You can tell that a lot of love went into making Defenders of Ekron, so kudos to In Vitro Games for giving us a very entertaining and polished PS4 release. The game does stand up as a different type of shoot 'em up release, with fast-paced action mixed with exploration and some puzzle solving. All in all, I recommend Defenders of Ekron on PlayStation 4.
