In the year 2020, the world has become a nest for the unknown hostile organisms, E.B.E. No current weapons appear to make any impact on the E.B.E. leaving humanity powerless and on the brink of destruction. However, humanity has now got one last hope for survival in the development of bioarmor, which fuses the E.B.E.'s body tissue with metal. These are the Special Enhanced A.N.T.I. troops who have incorporated this weaponry with remodelling surgery. With the power of the A.N.T.I., humanity for the first time successfully destroys the E.B.E. Baron class. In the wake of this victory, humanity has mounted a large-scale counter offensive, with the hopes on the new strength of the A.N.T.I.

Earth Wars features some fun moments, such as the boss fights, as well as enjoyable gameplay mechanics. Pity that it doesn't fully live up to its potential, due to rather dull missions, a somewhat generic plot and cutscenes that bring very little to the game itself. These elements end up obscuring the decent gameplay, which ends up harming Earth Wars more than it should.

There's a decent amount of fun to be had with Earth Wars before a degree of monotony sets in. What starts out as a pretty slick, if straightforward 2D side-scrolling brawler fleshed out by a huge wealth of loot to gather, weapons to customise and skill stats to unlock, It never moves the needle far enough in either variety or innovation to truly hold interest for extended periods. Sure, there's just enough nuance in the combat and giant bosses to slay to you keep coming back, but the uninspired missions and derivative characters never let it realise its full potential.

Earth Wars is not particularly creative or brilliant, but it works entirely within its limited means to deliver a comfortable, enjoyable experience.

Control is smooth and combat is fun, especially the bonuses you get for random things like attacking from behind, destroying enemy shields, etc. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I like the loot/crafting system largely because it happens organically and you're not hunting anything down. Earth Wars is a fun game, well worth the ridiculously cheap price (five bucks). It's not perfect but it's a spirited attempt to imitate Muramasa.
