de Blob 2 keeps many of the same characteristics found in the original game, with both the brilliant - and the not-so-brilliant - features mostly staying intact. The cameras can still be occasionally fiddly, and things can feel a little too easy in places, but brand new 2D sections and a slightly more refined-feeling overall experience put the sequel just above the original in our pecking order. Either game should go down well – especially with a younger audience – but this one just about splashes its way into first place.

Being honest I’d say you really only should need one de Blob game in your life, though if you truly love the original and wanted more it won’t disappoint as long as you set your expectations towards more of the same. If you’re interested in the title but haven’t played the original it’s really a bit of a toss up which would be better. Honestly I prefer the pacing and objectives of the first to the sequel so in that case I’d point towards the remastered original that’s no less attractive and I think paced better for the Switch. Still, de Blob 2 is no slouch and does a great job of providing a less complicated 3D platformer that’s fun for all ages on the system.

Still, for those who fondly remember running, jumping, and the excitement of hoping they land in precisely the right spot despite being slightly disoriented, De Blob 2 will be like sitting down with an old pal they haven’t seen in ages.

Despite having a very similar feel to the first game, De Blob 2 manages to stand out on its own. The overall storyline does hold it back slightly. However the additions to gameplay, new abilities and the upgrades to De Blob and Pinky add substance. The addition of a Co-op mode also makes playing with a friend enjoyable.

de Blob 2 makes its premiere on the Nintendo Switch and it arrives as a 3D action platformer that features a simple and accessible gameplay that is certain to catch the eye of less experienced players. If its simplicity means that De Blob 2 is easy to grasp, it will also leave out those players looking for something more challenging, as the game quickly becomes too repetitive and its level of challenge is simply not up to what most players are looking for.
