Critic Reviews for Lumote
Lumote is a beautiful game and if I've got any complaints it's that I want more.
...while I like it at times, I’m left feeling unsatisfied. More unsatisfied than a game has made me feel for quite some time.
Lumote is a wonderful and relaxing puzzle-platformer. It has a fantastic, vibrant aesthetic that helps create an interesting and creative world to explore.
Lumote: The Mastermote Chronicles is a charming and thoughtful puzzler. The protagonist is adorably loveable and while the premise is simple, it is well executed. Some of the puzzles did leave me questioning if I broke the game or was doing it correctly though. The quirks to the game’s design, such as being unable to backtrack, were annoying but not much of a distraction, and what really sells the game is the visuals and sound design. The plinky-plonk soundtrack coupled with the vibrant visuals pull you into a world I wanted to live in.
Puzzle platformers on the Switch have taken on all sorts of appearances on the Switch, but nothing has been quite like Lumote...
Lumote: The Mastermote Chronicles is a visually stunning puzzle game that starts off slowly but later escalates into creative puzzles that will have many players racking their brains. The ending itself conveys a profound message about an endless journey, at the end of which a completely new, blank page awaits you. Beautiful visuals alone aren’t enough, however, and the game suffers from a few shortcomings that the developers will hopefully address in future updates. The game certainly offers a Zen-like experience… as long as you’re not tearing your hair out over yet another baffling death or clunky controls.
