Former PlayStation Boss Thinks Xbox Multiplatform Plan Can Succeed, Compares It To SEGA

Last week, rumors surfaced that Microsoft allegedly planned to release many Xbox exclusives on competing platforms. This rumor was further buoyed by the announcement that Forza Horizon 5 was headed to the PS5 in the spring of this year.

While Xbox fans might not like the direction the company is taking, one former PlayStation executive sees how Microsoft can succeed with this move and compares it to SEGA.

Xbox's Multiplatform Move Is A Strategy Against The Rising Cost Of Game Development

Appearing on the Kiwi Talkz YouTube channel (via VGC), former PlayStation CEO and former chairman of Sony Interactive America, gave his opinion on Microsoft's multiplatform plans for the Xbox brand.

"Multiplatform is a strategy, particularly in a world where the cost of development is increasing so dramatically," Layden notes.

Layden adds, "What does it do to their brand? It makes the conversation harder to create the FOMO (fear of missing out) you’re trying to do that by bringing everyone to your platform by saying, ‘if you’re not here you’re missing out,’ but if it’s available on all platforms, that’s one of your marketing tactics you can’t use."
