Assassin's Creed Shadows only just came out, but Ubisoft might already have another game up its sleeve.
According to Insider Gaming editor-in-chief Tom Henderson, Codename Invictus "should" launch later this year. It isn't a new mainline entry, but a multiplayer spin-off developed alongside specialist talent from the For Honor and Rainbow Six Siege teams. It was first reported by VGC in an interview with series boss Marc-Alexis Cote, and while he didn't shed any details on what we can expect, he did explain why Ubisoft is experimenting with a standalone multiplayer game.
Invictus will be part of the Animus Hub, the new Call of Duty-style launcher.
"The reasoning behind having a multiplayer initiative as well is I feel Assassin's Creed can branch into different channels," Cote said. "We've only scratched the surface of what we can do with the Animus [in] Assassin's Creed. We've had multiplayer in the past that was not super accessible."
