A big selling point for Sony's PlayStation 5 is the console hardware - processing power, graphical fidelity, the works. And coming soon to an PS5 near you, an update will let you turn that off.

This news comes to us through an official blog post detailing the changes. Tomorrow, an update will start getting beta-tested by invited players before, eventually, going live to all PS5 consoles.
In their view, the headline feature is the ability to pair DualSense wireless controllers with multiple devices at once. Which may be a perfectly reasonable thing to believe, but you see, it's not as funny as nerfing your own console.
The nerfs come as part of Sony's 'Road to Zero' environmental plan - as they intend to reach net-zero carbon emissions. Gaming is pretty thirsty when it comes to sucking up a bunch of power (those big fans on gaming PCs aren't for show!), and if Sony intends to hit that goal, they'll need players to play along.
