The reveal trailer of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 looked pretty interesting, until we learnt that it was a Call of Duty game. The follow up trailer only made things worse, as fans were annoyed by how far the title was deviating from being a military shooter. While not many are looking forward to Black Ops 7's trippy new setting, it seems something similar was planned years ago.
While at Sledgehammer Games, Dead Space creator Glen Schofield was working on a third-person Call of Duty game which featured some horror elements. However, it seems that project was eventually cancelled as the studio had to work on Modern Warfare 3. Schofield's description of Call of Duty: Fog of War sounds pretty interesting.
In a conversation with PC Gamer, Schofield revealed that they "wanted to make a scary version of Vietnam." The cancelled project would feature intense fire fights, as well as sequences akin to Dead Space's horror. "We were making it, and we were really psyched about having you go through tunnels, and everything is scary because there's not much light down there. Sometimes you're shooting in the dark."
