It seems that Mass Effect Legendary Edition will be missing some DLC from the original title.
Mass Effect Legendary Collection was announced recently, and will include most of the content found in the original trilogy. However, it has been revealed that the Pinnacle Station DLC from the first game will not be included. Speaking to GameSpot, director Mac Walters stated that the DLC will not be included in the Collection as the data for the expansion was corrupted sometime after the first Mass Effect launched. BioWare tried to recover the DLC, but that it didn't work out.
"We got so close," Walters told GameSpot. "It was probably more than half-way past development, halfway through development. And we got in touch with someone from Demiurge and they said 'We might have a backup, we might have a backup.' They carefully did the backup. They sent it to us on a thumb drive. We got it.
"We could open a map, sort of, but the data was, unfortunately, so corrupted. We were looking at it and was like, okay, well this is going to take us so much time to rebuild it from scratch. And when you think of what it's like rebuilding versus remastering, it's a different set of skills, different set of people required, everything like that. And ultimately we just said 'No, we might as well just rebuild it from scratch at that point.'"
Mass Effect Legendary Edition was revealed recently, and will contain Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, and Mass Effect 3. The Collection will include most of the DLC from those three games, though Mass Effect 3's multiplayer mode will not be included. The games will be playable in 4K, and will feature enhanced character models, high-resolution textures, new lighting, and more.
Mass Effect Legendary Edition releases on May 14th for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. The Collection will be playable on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S through backwards compatibility.
