Former Disco Elysium Developers Are Now Making A Third-Person RPG, Rather Than Another Isometric Game

Dark Math Games, a studio comprised of former Disco Elysium developers, has announced a major pivot in its debut project.

Dark Math is one of several studios that emerged from ZA/UM's developer exodus following the release of Disco Elysium. The remains of ZA/UM are developing Zero Parades, which we saw at Gamescom.

The studio had been developing an isometric game called XXXNightshift, but has since reworked the project into a third-person role-playing game called Tangerine Antarctic.

The game is named for an in-game hotel situated in a ski village in British Antarctica. A blizzard has trapped the hotel's residents, and there's murder afoot.

If you thought the change in camera angle meant Dark Math is no longer creating a Disco Elysium successor, you'd be wrong. A brief gameplay trailer released by the studio shows a conversation between the player character and various internal motivations, such as curiosity and drive, in the style of Disco Elysium's skill system.

Dark Math promises that the Tangerine Antarctic itself will be a major character in the story, and who doesn't love a semi-sentient dwelling?
