Arrowhead Wants Helldivers 2 To Be Like RuneScape, Never-Ending And Constantly Updated

I don't think anyone was calling for a Helldivers 3, but if anyone was, Arrowhead head Shams Jorjani may have dashed their hopes earlier this week (nice spot, GamesRadar+).

In the game's Discord server, Jorjani elaborated on the future of the series, and affirmed that Arrowhead intend to support Helldivers 2 indefinitely.

"[We have] no plans for [Helldivers 3], just [Helldivers 2] for as long as it can go," Jorjani writes, comparing the game's trajectory to the long-running MMO RuneScape.

"Myself and the directors agree we would love this to be a forever game," he continues. "Assuming we get a grip on performance and dev practices we can keep expanding it for a long time. PlayStation is super supportive."

Considering Helldivers 2 is the sole success story of PlayStation's ill-fated pivot towards live-service games, you can see why the publisher is happy to keep supporting Arrowhead.

Arrowhead's chief creative officer, Johan Pilestedt, has referenced Helldivers 3 before, saying Helldivers 2 will grow into Helldivers 3 over time (which is actually similar to RuneScape). The game won't ever feature swimming, though, he was clear on that.

As Jorjani referenced, performance is currently a major issue for Helldivers 2....
