Borderlands 4 is a hit. Not that Gearbox's latest (and fairly well-received!) mainline entry was in danger of flopping, per se, but there's nuance to a game's sales potential, and this one looks primed to fully realize its commercial ambitions.
Courtesy of Circana, the leading U.S. gaming sales analysis firm, we now know that Borderlands 4's launch period kicked off with aplomb. For the period between August 31 and October 4 - which coincides with its September 12 debut - Borderlands 4 achieved the #1 sales position in the United States. Other winners include Ghost of Yotei, Silent Hill f, and Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles.
In the above Bluesky thread, Circana analyst Mat Piscatela breaks it all down in his customary slide-fueled and easy-to-read format. There's a lot to parse - including a very solid fourth-place debut for Ghost of Yotei, a similarly strong seventh-place Silent Hill f bow, and more - but I reckon the biggest splash in gaming fandom mindshare will tie in with Borderlands 4's numerous achievements.
Coming in with the first-place finish for its launch month is big news, but when you zoom out and look...
