Rockstar has been accused of laying off over thirty employees across Edinburgh, Dundee, Lincoln and Toronto for attempting to unionise. The company claims the employees in question were sharing company secrets on Discord, while the laid-off employees maintain the server was only used for communicating with union representatives.
Since the layoffs, several protests have been staged outside the company's London and Edinburgh offices. The most recent protest happened last night; protesters gathered at Rockstar North, marched to the Scottish Parliament and then gave speeches.
"When I look at Rockstar now, I see two things," a protester outside parliament said (thanks, Dexerto). "I see a giant international corporation, a machine that creates billions in value for its overseas shareholders in an industry rife with work exploitation, unfair practice and unreasonable working conditions."
"Grand Theft Auto 6 will make billions, that's not in doubt. Shareholders will get rich, fortunes will be made. But I want people to think of the human cost. The people burnt out, the careers ended, the lives in disarray," they continued.
According to Dexerto, another employee named Jack joined the union after years of discontentment at the company's QA department.
