Xbox Insists They Need To Run A 'Healthy Business' After Failing To Hike The Price Of The Outer Worlds 2

In case you forgot, Xbox Game Studios originally planned to sell The Outer Worlds 2 for $80 before player backlash (and likely a disappointing number of pre-orders) prompted the company to reconsider this price tag.

In an interview with Variety, Microsoft's president of game content and studios, Matt Booty, addressed the failed price increase.

"Our whole focus is on delivering player satisfaction and delivering player value. And we're always going to be listening to what people want there," Booty explained. "We've reacted in the last year and I think for us, the real focus is going to be — I'll come back to this phrase meeting people where they are. I think there's going to be less of a focus on what's the top line price of a game, as people start to engage in different ways with games."

Nintendo was the first company to charge $80 for a standard (non-special edition) release with Mario Kart World. There was a lot of backlash to this move, too, but perhaps less than it might have been if Mario Kart World hadn't been bundled with the Nintendo Switch 2.
