The Last of Us' multiplayer component, Factions, remains beloved, with its canceled successor project one of the more compelling "what if" games of recent years. Factions mixed TLOU's on-the-fly survival-crafting mechanics with round-based PvP matches, and Naughty Dog's ill-fated multiplayer game would presumably have built on the idea, likely with a much greater scope. We may never see another official multiplayer mode for The Last of Us, but a mod project is already gathering significant interest.
Video game modder and YouTuber Speclizer shared some clips of their latest project, a "multiplayer mod for The Last of Us 2 on PC." Speclizer follows up in the replies, saying the mod will only feature PvP, since "involving NPCs makes things a lot harder." Despite the mod's PvP focus, the video doesn't actually feature any combat. That hasn't stopped it from a warm reception, though.
