Electronic Arts has had a broadly negative reputation among the gaming community for decades. The company was an early pioneer of microtransactions in video games and is known to have been a heavy-handed publisher with its first-party studios, like BioWare. All in all, EA is associated with trying to gouge as much money from consumers as possible.
However, there are aspects of Electronic Arts that are often praised, or at the very least are uncontroversial. The company's EA Originals brand is a publishing arm for independent titles. Through Originals, EA has published titles such as It Takes Two, Tales of Kenzera: Zau and Immortals of Aveum.
Josef Fares—founder of It Takes Two and Split Fiction developer Hazelight—recently commented on his relationship with Electronic Arts, defending the company from its ill-got reputation.
"There are a lot of great people at EA," Fares told The Game Business. "They know how we work. They respect it and they leave us be. Let's be honest, there's not a publisher in the world that hasn't f**ked up now and then."
