Capcom Hasn't Been As Clever With Censoring Resident Evil Requiem's Japanese Release As It Used To Be

Resident Evil Requiem is heavily censored in Japan, but Capcom hasn't been anywhere near as clever with it as it has for previous Resident Evil games.

If you're a long-time fan of Resident Evil, then you're no doubt aware that the series is regularly censored for its Japanese releases. Japan isn't big on its games having gore, blood, and dismemberment, so almost every Resident Evil (or Biohazard, I should say) game out there has been tweaked to be less violent and horrific.

In some cases, Capcom has been pretty cheeky with the censorship, such as memorably replacing a dismembered head in a fridge with a photo of the victim in Resident Evil 7 and changing up camera angles in Resident Evil 6 to avoid any instances of decapitation. Requiem sadly doesn't follow suit and has some pretty lazy censorship.

Over on the Resident Evil Requiem subreddit, Redditor iStretchyDisc shared multiple examples of the censorship in the Japanese version of Resident Evil Requiem. They pointed out that Capcom used to censor Resident Evil in basic ways that didn't interrupt the immersion much, even if things were a little less graphic.
