Iconic Japanese RPG Series Trails Will Finally End In 2032 After Almost Three Decades

Trails (Kiseki in Japanese) is one of the longest-running role-playing game series in Japan, having begun in 2004 with Trails in the Sky. Trails is technically a subseries of The Legend of Heroes—hence the mouthful name of The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky—but has grown to become its own distinct setting, mostly unrelated to The Legend of Heroes.

In a recent interview with Famitsu (spotted by Wccftech), Nihon Falcom head Toshihiro Kondo revealed five years in advance that the company plans to announce the final Trails game in 2031, with a release date confirmed for 2032. According to Kondo, the series's ending has already been decided.

2031 is a significant year for Nihon Falcom, as it marks fifty years since the studio was founded. Over the years, Nihon Falcom has become known for Ys, Dragon Slayer and Trails.

Thirteen mainline games have been released in the Trails series (and two remakes). Trails comprises smaller "arcs" but is not an anthology series; every game takes place in the same setting, and they often share characters and story arcs.
