It's tough to go head-to-head with Grand Theft Auto 6, especially if you're trying to fight it on its own turf. If any other games stand a chance at winning Game of the Year in 2026, they're likely titles of a totally different nature, like breakout indie hits or family-friendly Nintendo adventures. One new game with GTA vibes, though, looks like it's taking a smart approach.
Samson, releasing on Steam on April 8, isn't trying to match GTA 6 in scale. Instead, it's leaning into the intimacy and intensity of a criminal world. Developed by Liquid Swords, a studio started by Just Cause creator Christofer Sundberg, Samson promises a world "where every fight is close and every escape is earned."
